Encanto character Agustín, father to protagonist Mirabel, has a birthday with a very special meaning. The movie from Walt Disney Animation Studios released theatrically back in November, but it didn't find its audience until it released on Disney+ the next month, when it became a global sensation. Well-reviewed by critics but truly powered by the passionate engagement of fans, Encanto became a tremendous success, ultimately winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at this year's Oscars.

A key reason for the movie connecting with viewers the way it has is the central Madrigal family, most of whom possess a magical ability as the result of a miracle bestowed on Abuela Alma years prior. Of those who don't, only Mirabel was expected to; other than Abuela, the two others lacking powers are Agustín and Félix, who married sisters Julieta and Pepa, respectively. What they lack in supernatural abilities they make up for in personality, with each complementing their powered spouses in touching, often humorous ways.

Recognizing this, Encanto fans haven't missed the opportunity to celebrate these characters too, and it turns out Agustín's birthday will be an especially perfect occasion to do so this year. Taking to Twitter, director Jared Bush notes the character's birthday is June 19, and points out that, as the third Sunday in June, that date is also Father's Day in much of the world, including Colombia. Agustín appears only sparingly in Encanto, which is true of much of the supporting cast, given the size of the Madrigal family and the movie's limited runtime. Still, that hasn't stopped fans from digging into each second of footage for clues as to each person's backstory, which has resulted in a number of interesting Encanto fan theories. Bush has proven quite willing to share details with viewers on social media, which is how they learned when Agustín Madrigal's birthday is in the first place, along with those of many other characters.

The strong desire to know each of the family members better has been a chief reason for the calls for a sequel, which looks sure to be coming in some form. Composer Lin-Manuel Miranda has already said he wants to return to write more music for an Encanto 2, though he's not sure whether the project would work best as another movie, a Disney+ series, or a stage musical. Perhaps, if an Encanto TV show ever gets made, audiences could be treated to an entire episode dedicated to showing what trouble Agustín can get into in a day.
