The Madrigal family is dissected and explained in a fun and colorful way in the opening song of Encanto, "The Family Madrigal." Mirabel Madrigal sings with the town as she describes her family's history with a magical candle that saved her Abuela Alma's life many years prior. Since that fateful night, the miracle extended to Alba's family and has given her children and grandchildren gifts (or powers) that help them and the community.

With such a large family, however, fans can be confused by the Madrigal connection. Between the grandkids and cousins, there are a lot of powers, personalities, and names to remember, which is why a family tree is helpful.

Abuela Alma & Abuelo Pedro Madrigal

Abuela Alma is the matriarch and undercover antagonist of the family. As the head of Casita, Alma's goal is to make sure the miracle candle continues to burn so that her kids, grandkids, and town are taken care of.

Alma and her husband met, fell in love, and had triplets — Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno. Sadly, Pedro passed away, leaving her alone with three kids and the magical Casita. From those children, she had six grandchildren and they all live under one roof as the magical Madrigals. Alma's personality in Encanto is stern but hopeful, which gets her into trouble with her granddaughter, Mirabel.

Julieta & Agustín Madrigal

Julieta Madrigal is Alma and Pedro's daughter. She married Agustín and the couple had three children together —  Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel.

Julieta has a nurturing presence and was given the power to heal others through food. With all of the Madrigals having a power on behalf of the magical candle, Julieta often heals her husband when he gets an allergic reaction from a bee sting. She's seen in the city healing the community with baked goods for their illnesses. And while not much is known about Agustín, he's a dedicated father who sympathizes with his daughter for not having a power because he doesn't have one either.

Isabela, Luisa, And Mirabel Madrigal

Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel are Alma's grandchildren and the daughters of Julieta and Agustín. All three women are incredibly different but have one thing in common: their love for their family.

Fans noticed a few Easter eggs on Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel's clothing that gives away their special power and what they bring to the Madrigal household. Isabela can create plants and flowers without effort, Luisa has the incredible gift of strength, and sadly Mirabel was never given a gift. She does, however, have the power to keep the family together. Mirabel's differences from her sisters and cousins made her the black sheep of the family (much like her Tío Bruno). However, Mirabel embraced her differences and did what she could to save the candle's magic when the flame was dying.

Pepa & Félix Madrigal

Pepa is Alma's daughter and the sister to Julieta and Bruno. Pepa married Félix and the pair had three kids — Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio.

When Pepa was young, she was given the gift of weather manipulation. She can change the weather based on her emotion, which can cause issues at times since a small cloud follows her when she's sad, but it comes in hand when she needs it. Viewers saw a flashback to Pepa and Félix's wedding day — before it was tainted by her brother Bruno — and their relationship seems like an endearing one since Félix has to handle Pepa's unstable weather conditions.

Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio are Alma's grandkids, the children of Pepa and Félix, and the cousins of Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel.

As the eldest in the family, Dolores has the gift of impeccable hearing. She can hear a pin drop from miles away. Her younger brother Camilo has the ability to shapeshift, which fans wish they learned more about. And last but not least, Antonio is the youngest of the clan and received the gift of talking to animals. Antonio and his cousin Mirabel have a close bond because they roomed together in the nursery before Antonio was given his gift and own room.

Bruno Madrigal

Bruno is Alma's only son and the brother of Julieta and Pepa. He is also the uncle of Isabela, Luisa, Mirabel, Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio.

Bruno was given the gift of seeing the future at a young age. It was because of his frightening visions that the family started distancing themselves from him and he ran away to protect them. Bruno never had children but he was a loving uncle, son, and brother despite what everyone said about him behind his back. Fans demanded justice for Bruno because, despite the rumors about him, he was a loving and dedicated family member who wanted the best for everyone. To prove his love for his family, Bruno lived inside Casita's walls until he was found by Mirabel. In the end, Bruno faced his family and was on better terms with them all.
