Empire of Sin is a strategy game where players can build up a criminal empire in Chicago. The game is filled with old 1900s slang, Tommy guns, and gangsters—all of which is courtesy of the prohibition era. As can be expected of building an expansive criminal network, players are expected to grow their enterprise through speakeasies, casinos, and carefully managed supply chains.

The player has a myriad of choices when it comes to building their Mafia group, but one notable way to do it is by increasing their notoriety.  Players will take a hit to their diplomacy with cops and rival gangs, but the returns may be well worth it. High notoriety can allow the player to obtain better rackets, assigns more roles to crew members, and help reduce the cost of management and certain upgrades.

How to Increase Notoriety in Empire of Sin

Notoriety is defined as “the state of being famous or well known for some bad quality or deed”. As such, notoriety is heavily intertwined with success in the game. This is why it is so appropriate that so long as the player is advancing in the game, players will also gain a little bit of notoriety. Even if the player mostly relies on diplomacy or bribery. But it should be noted that these notoriety gains are minor.

To really begin gaining notoriety, players will have to do something worth talking about. Something to get the word out that their group is not to be taken lightly. That means expanding the player’s criminal empire obtaining and maintaining rackets. Players will also want to focus on recruiting various characters. Acquiring these two things signals that not only is the player’s criminal group doing well—but that they are also thriving and willing to expand.

But what if the player wants even more notoriety? What if the player wants their group to be known as the biggest, baddest guys in town? Well, the answer is simple: eliminate another major faction. Nothing makes a gang’s reputation skyrocket like a good old-fashioned gang war or major police shooting. But eliminating a faction is easier said than done. But the main thing the player needs to do is locate the faction’s safe house, kill any enemies inside, and eliminate the faction’s leader. Then boom: increase in notoriety.
