Empire of Sin takes place in prohibition-era Chicago, encouraging players to build up their own criminal empire. Taking the form of a strategy game, players are expected to manage rackets, acquire recruits, and deal with local law enforcement to ensure that their mafia group grows to its fullest potential. It is a game full of tommy guns, old-timey slang, and gangster culture.

But since the player is literally engaging in organized crime, combat is inevitable. This combat often pits the player against rival gangs or local enforcement. People know what to expect: HP damage, turn-based combat, use of items, etc. But one element that sticks out is how gangsters can become incapacitated, injured, and even die permanently. So it is imperative that players learn how to heal their comrades.

The easiest and simplest way to heal gangsters is to simply wait for a bit. Unless they are in combat, the game automatically allows them to slowly recover their HP over time. This HP regeneration is a bit slow, but it can still allow the player to heal their crew by waiting for a little while. But aside from passive recovery, there are two main methods to heal squad members: healing items and healing skills. Healing items, much like armor and trinkets, can be found by looting buildings or ransacking dead bodies. Examples of such healing items include first aid kits and doctor's bags, which should be a fairly common find in the game.

There is also a myriad of other items that can induce beneficial effects like increasing movement speed, stop bleeding, resisting negative debuffs, and so on. If players have a hard time looting healing items, then they should be sure to head over to the black market and simply buy some. It can get a bit expensive, but that's the price players have to pay to keep their crewmates alive. Once these healing items are acquired, it is then just a simple matter of giving these items to crewmates or equipping them on the player character's utility slot. These items, in turn, can be activated while in combat.

But items are not the only way to heal people. Certain characters actually have healing abilities, and having even one on hand can be exceptionally helpful. Several gang bosses gain a healing ability at the third tier of their skill tree, but gangsters with the doctor profession stand out for having at heal skill as early as tier 1. This healing skill can be used in combat to help restore HP of any viable target.
