The 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards are coming up, and the nominees have officially been announced.

Leading the pack on the dramatic side of things are HBO's freshman series Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones; on the comedic side of things, ABC's Modern Family is cleaning up.

Cable TV is definitely continuing to gain awards recognition this year; joining the aforementioned HBO in the nominee pool are Showtime, AMC and FX. CBS is also having a good year, with its dramatic series The Good Wife and comedy series The Big Bang Theory each scoring multiple nominations.

Sadly, there's already been one major snub: despite fairly good critical response and huge ratings (for cable TV), AMC's The Walking Dead has been largely ignored by the Emmys, despite having snagged a Golden Globe nod earlier this year. Also feeling snubbed this year: NBC's Community and AMC's Breaking Bad (which should be on that list for Best Drama, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, hands down!).
