Jonah Hill, the foul-mouthed kid from Superbad, is fast-becoming a star in the film industry. As he continues to work with Michael Bacall and Joe Gazzam on the 21 Jump Street movie script, Hill has his eyes on Emma Stone to play the film's leading lady.
Hill and Stone worked together on Superbad in 2007 and have both become recognized names in the comedy genre. While 21 Jump Street will surely have its fair share of humor, the film could be a nice change for both young actors. Over a year ago, Hill mentioned he wanted to make 21 Jump Street into an "R-rated, insane, Bad Boys-meets-John-Hughes-type movie."
It would be interesting to see Stone in two action films. She has the acting chops and the looks to get any role she wants right now and filmmakers are openly courting her talents. We can only hope she likes this script and adds some much-needed female power to 21 Jump Street.
Information is scarce on the film's development, but we know Hill wants Johnny Depp to make an appearance in the movie update of the 1987-1991 television show that helped kick off Depp's illustrious career.
Hill is keeping himself busy trying to nail down the key positions on 21 Jump Street. The film will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs) and should begin production once Hill completes filming of The Sitter.
Sony is in charge of this production and may be close to nailing down its biggest female star of late. If Stone joins 21 Jump Street and the Spider-Man reboot, that will make three straight Sony films for the actress. Maybe they'll give her an action hero to portray at some point. Wouldn't you love to see Emma Stone kicking ass in a costume?
21 Jump Street is scheduled for release on March 16, 2012.
