Emily in Paris season 1 ends with Emily (Lily Collins) getting an unexpected text from Camille (Camille Razat); here's what this means for the show moving forward. Originally enthusiastic to work with the French team at Savoir, Emily quickly realizes that not everyone is thrilled to have an American in the company. It didn't help that the main character quite opinionated on things and was eager to cozy up with her new co-workers. Eventually, however, they warmed up to her after she proved to be an asset, providing a fresh perspective on how they can better do business.

While Emily's professional life in Paris hasn't been exactly a walk in the park in Emily in Paris season 1, it's still been an easier journey than her personal one. After her boyfriend in Chicago haphazardly breaks up with her because he supposedly cannot do long-distance relationships, Emily finds herself dating and having intimate relations with a few French men. That said, it's clear from the beginning that Emily is attracted to her neighbor Gabriel (Lucas Bravo). The only problem is, he's also the boyfriend of her friend, Camille.

After stopping herself from giving in to her feelings for Gabriel, Emily finally confronts them during the Emily in Paris season 1 finale. At this point, Gabriel and Camille have broken up after the former decided to move to Normandy where he plans to run his restaurant. This was supposed to be Emily's final encounter with Gabriel, only to learn the next morning that he's no longer leaving thanks to Antonine Lambert (William Abadie) financing his dream restaurant in the city. Emily is happy about this — until she receives a text from Camille who tells her that she heard that Gabriel is staying in Paris and that she wants to talk to her. Given the tone of her message, chances are that Camille is still unaware of what's going on between Emily and Gabriel, and viewers were left wondering if Emily will volunteer the information or not.

Regardless of what happened during their conversation, Camille will more likely find out about Emily's biggest secret during the potential season 2, solidifying Emily in Paris' main love triangle. What's going to be critical here is how she learns about it — which will depend on how the show wants the situation to play out. The revelation will be dramatic, especially if Camille finds out that her American friend has been deceiving her for a long time; in addition to sleeping together, Emily and Gabriel kissed twice before — the second time, she fully knew that he was in a relationship. Aside from feeling betrayed, Camille is also still madly in love with Gabriel. Emily in Paris season 1 didn't really explore much about their relationship as the story was told from Emily's perspective, but it's clear that she genuinely cares for her boyfriend — she even defended him to her mom who's not thrilled that Gabriel won't take money from them for his business. Camille has been portrayed as kind and nice, but depending on how this whole situation pans out, she can cause some serious problems for Emily in Emily in Paris season 2. This brewing conflict will also more likely spill into Emily's work at Savoir since she just convinced Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) to take Camille's family's vineyard as a client.

The inevitable fallout of Emily's decision to sleep with Gabriel will be a focal point for Emily in Paris season 2 — if Netflix renews the series. What's clear is, if Emily wants to minimize the consequences of her actions, she needs to come forward and confess to Camille about her dalliance with Gabriel. Otherwise, it's going to be significantly worse for her if Camille finds out about it from other people.
