Elizabeth Olsen has shared a new update that makes her Scarlet Witch future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe look grim for the time being. Olsen joined the MCU as Wanda Maximoff in a post-credits scene of 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier before making her proper debut in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron. Over the years, Wanda has become a major player in the MCU, with her leading role in Marvel's first Disney+ series, WandaVision, launching the character's popularity to the MCU's top shelf. After the Scarlet Witch seemingly died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' ending, speculation has turned to the character's MCU future.During an interview on the TODAY show, Olsen was asked about her future as the Scarlet Witch in the MCU, and the actress gave a straightforward answer.

According to Olsen, the actress has no idea about Scarlet Witch's potential MCU return after her seeming demise at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. When asked about more specific details on her situation, Olsen revealed that she has no contract in place with Marvel Studios, so the actress is not privy to any Scarlet Witch return details. Check out the full exchange below:

Al Roker: I have to ask. Scarlet Witch. Are we going to see more?

Elizabeth Olsen: It's a hard question for me to answer because I feel like my words are always twisted every time I answer it, but like...

Al Roker: Think of this as the "no twist zone."

Olsen: So my no twist zone is "Yes I hope so." I have no idea. When I say that, it's not because I have a loaded answer. It's because I say, "Yes I hope so," and I mean it at face value.

Roker: Have you started filming?

Olsen: Absolutely not.

Roker: Have you seen a script?

Olsen: No

Craig Melvin: Has there been a Zoom call?

Olsen: There's no contract. There you go.

Which MCU Projects Could Feature The Return Of Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch?

Although Olsen does not currently have a contract in place with Marvel, the Scarlet Witch's burst in popularity makes it unlikely for the actress to already be done with the role. Given the Scarlet Witch's personal connections to a few MCU characters, two projects stand out as the prime candidates for Olsen's next MCU appearance. The first of those is the Disney+ Agatha: Coven of Chaos series. Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness was the main antagonist of WandaVision, and the villain was left trapped by the Scarlet Witch in Westview, still thinking she was the nosy neighbor persona Agatha had used as a cover inside Wanda's sitcom reality.

Agatha will likely be looking for revenge on Wanda when she wakes up from the spell she has been put in during Agatha: Coven of Chaos. With the series rumored to feature actor Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan, one of Wanda's sons reincarnated, the show would be perfect for the Scarlet Witch's return. Olsen having a one-episode role in the series finale could tie up Agatha's revenge plot and bring forward the first contact between Wanda and one of her sons outside the fake Westview reality she created.

Another spiritual WandaVision sequel, the upcoming Disney+ Vision Quest series, could be the place where the Scarlet Witch returns. The series will feature Paul Bettany's return as the White Vision version of the MCU hero that was brought to life during WandaVision. Vision will be looking "to regain his memory and humanity" in the series that is being helmed by WandaVision's Jac Schaeffer. Given Wanda's personal connection to Vision and the fact that the creator of the MCU couple's series is helming Vision Quest, Olsen's Scarlet Witch return in the show could be in the cards.
