Eliza Dushku is reportedly walking away from a project that many fans were hoping would bring the actress back into TV screen stardom.
In November, Dushku was tapped for a new TNT pilot titled Bird Dog - about a police officer (to have been played by Dushku) who trails her estranged father into the world of law enforcement where, alas, she ends up with a new partner - her father.
"Hey guys! News to report~ We have mutually & AMICABLY decided to part ways on "Bird Dog" due to creative differences. No worries/fears/tears!"
After Dushku's unexpected social media announcement downplaying her departure from the program, TNT confirmed the split, stating only that the production of Bird Dog will move ahead as planned.
Dushku is best known as Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but has also made a splash in films such as True Lies, The New Guy, Bring It On, Wrong Turn and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
Back in November, fans were excited to learn of Dushku's much-anticipated return to the small screen. The actress had last been seen on the sci-fi series Dollhouse, a gig that ran for only two seasons. This time around, it would be "creative differences," not poor ratings, that got between Dushku and a successful new series. The Bird Dog producers have yet to name a replacement for the 29-year-old actress.
Wynn Everett, William Ragsdale and Suzy Nakamura have all signed on to join Bird Dog, which, if picked up, could premiere on TNT sometime next fall. Emmy-nominated director Mike Robe (The Junction Boys, Montana Sky, Northern Lights) has been tapped to write and direct the pilot.
For now, Eliza Dushku's small screen future is up in the air. Her most recent television work included an appearance on The Big Bang Theory and also an audience cameo on Dancing with the Stars last season - where Dushku turned up to support boyfriend Rick Fox (who was eliminated in the seventh round).
