Netflix's Elite season 3 solved the season-long mystery while sending the students of Las Encinas off to the next chapters of their lives, but did everyone get a happy ending? Elite began in 2018 and introduced Netflix viewers to the privileged and very sexually active students of Las Encinas. The first season centered on the murder of free spirit Marina (María Pedraza), and the second season dealt with the fallout of said investigation. Marina's killer, Polo (Álvaro Rico), went free for most of season 2, until the end when Marina's brother Guzmán (Miguel Bernardeau) and onetime boyfriend Samuel (Itzan Escamilla) tried to get Polo sent to jail. However, when not enough evidence was found, Polo walked free and returned to Las Encinas.

Much like the first two seasons, Elite season 3 is interspersed with flashforwards to the night of a horrific crime. The night in question? The students' graduation party. The horrific crime? The murder of Polo. All throughout the season, the remaining students are questioned about the events leading up to Polo's death, though everyone seems to have conflicting accounts.

In between the flashforwards, the students all grapple with their own issues. Guzmán and Samuel struggle to be content with Polo's continued freedom. Nadia (Mina El Hammani) and Lu (Danna Paola) fight for the same scholarship. Rebeca's (Claudia Salas) mother is sent to prison for running a drug empire, and Rebeca teams up with Valerio (Jorge López) to pick up the family business for some needed cash. Cayetana (Georgina Amorós) works to keep her relationship with Polo afloat through some careful manipulation. Carla (Ester Expósito) finds herself under the thumbs of the men in her life and seeks her freedom. And perhaps most distressingly, Ander (Arón Piper) is diagnosed with leukemia, putting a strain on his relationship with Omar (Omar Ayuso). Everything comes to a head in the finale.

Who Killed Polo (And How They Got Away With It)

Poloat school looking afraid in Élite

There are a lot of viable suspects to be found at the graduation party, but only one picks up the top half of a broken champagne bottle and stabs Polo. Distraught over the loss of the scholarship that would've gotten her to school in New York, Lu confronts Polo in the bathroom. After all, the scholarship was paid for by Polo's mothers, and Lu's public condemnation of Polo caused them to take the scholarship away. Unbeknownst to Lu, however, the scholarship has already been restored thanks to Polo's pleas, and Polo is only at the party to tell Lu (and Nadia, the other scholarship recipient) that. Polo never gets the chance, though, because in her emotional haze, Lu accidentally stabs Polo in the heart with the broken bottle.

Polo, bleeding heavily, stumbles out of the bathroom and through the party. He ends up crashing through a window and falling to the first floor, and he dies soon after with Guzmán by his side, insisting he forgives Polo for Marina's death. Before the police arrive, the remaining group (Guzmán, Samuel, Carla, Nadia, Ander, Omar, Valerio, Cayetana, Rebeca, and Lu) gathers, all of them aware that Lu was the one to stab Polo. Samuel wants to put an end to the suffering all of them have endured since Marina's death and proposes that they band together to protect Lu. It's Valerio who comes up with the idea to have everyone touch the bloody, broken bottle so the police can't identify Lu's fingerprints. The last set of prints to be added are Polo's, put in place to make it look like a suicide.

The group further throws suspicion off of Lu by claiming they saw other people follow Polo into the bathroom. Rebeca names Samuel, Samuel claims it was Valerio, Valerio mentions Cayetana, and so on. When it's Lu's turn, she nearly buckles under the pressure, but with some encouragement from her half-brother Valerio, she's able to recover. In the end, all of the students walk free. Nadia and Guzmán kiss while Rebeca comforts Cayetana, and Lu thanks Valerio for his help.

What Happens To Rebeca, Cayetana, and Valerio

Rebeca Valerio and Cayetana in Elite season 3

With Polo's murder wrapped up, all that's left is to tie up the remaining characters' storylines. First up, Rebeca returns home to find her mother starting up her drug dealing business again. Rebeca begs her mother to put an end to it, wanting only a quiet life. At Polo's funeral, Cayetana is approached by Polo's mothers. Knowing that Cayetana comes from a poor family and won't be able to pay for college by herself, they offer to pay for Cayetana's tuition at whatever college she pleases. However, Cayetana appears to finally be done with pretending to live above her means, for she refuses their offer. Later, she's seen mopping the floors at Las Encinas, just like her mother used to.

Meanwhile, Carla's father tells her she cannot study abroad like she wishes to because of her recent installation as the manager of her family's wineries. Instead of bowing to the pressure, Carla informs him she already has someone in place to run it for her while she's at school: Valerio. Valerio's got some business experience thanks to his drug venture, and Carla believes he'll be perfect for the role.

Nadia And Lu Head To New York (And Nadia And Guzmán Say Goodbye)

Nadia Lu and Guzman in Elite season 3

Now that Nadia and Lu's scholarships have been restored, they are off to New York to study at Columbia. Lu's parents aren't present at the airport to say goodbye, having effectively disowned her at the start of the season, and Nadia's mother promises Lu she will always have a family with them. Meanwhile, Guzmán is unable to come to the airport because he's with Ander awaiting the results of his last round of chemotherapy, so he sends Nadia a voice message saying that if she ever returns, he'll be waiting for her. While in the security line, Nadia sends him a reply, promising to come back for him.

Omar had initially prepared to leave for New York with Nadia, Lu, and his temporary fling Malick (Leïti Sène), but at the last second, he makes a different choice. However, before that, he shares a nice moment with his father Yusef (Abdelatif Hwidar). Previously, Yusef refused to refer to Ander as Omar's boyfriend, but in a show of acceptance, Yusef acknowledges what Ander means to Omar, and Omar and Yusef hug. Yusef finally accepted his son's homosexuality. This may have added to Omar's decision to not go to New York; being fully accepted by his father could've boosted his confidence in returning to Ander.

Omar And Ander Reunite (And Ander Enters Remission)

Omar and Ander kiss in Élite season 3

At the end of Elite season 3, Omar heads to the hospital to be with Ander. The two had previously split following Omar's hookups with Malick and Ander's desire to not keep Omar tied to him while he was sick. However, Omar is done with staying away and promises to stay with Ander no matter what happens with his illness. Ander is deeply touched, but is also happy to inform Omar that he's already gotten his test results, and he is officially in remission. Their reunion highlights that they were always meant to be together, but they each wanted what was best for the other person. Omar didn't decide to return to Ander after hearing that Ander was in remission, but he returned thinking he would need to care for Ander through his illness.

Carla and Samuel Part Ways

Samuel and Carla about to kiss in Elite season 3

Carla is headed someplace abroad, despite the fact that she is now free to be with Samuel following a season of obstacles. When Carla first tells Samuel of her decision to go abroad, he asks if people are allowed to visit, indicating not all is finished between them. However, when the time comes for Carla to leave, Samuel is at home. He starts to text her "I miss you already," but deletes it at the last minute. As Carla drives off to points unknown, crying but somewhat content, Samuel eats reheated macaroni alone in his home.

Two months later, a new school year begins at Las Encinas, and some of the core group are back. Rebeca, Samuel, and Guzmán, having been expelled on the very last day of the previous school year, have been allowed back to carry out their final year again. They're joined by Ander, who hadn't completed the school year because of his cancer, and Omar, a first-time student at Las Encinas. The bell rings, and they all head off to class, normal students for the first time in a while. But will that last?

What This Means For Elite Season 4

Elite cast

Elite has already been renewed for two more seasons by Netflix. However, predicting Elite season 4 is a bit tricky based on early reports regarding it. It sounds like going forward, the show will focus on a new cast of characters. This means season 3 was the end of the line for the original Las Encinas crew. However, seeing as there's still a portion of the core group at Las Encinas, could they make appearances? For a moment, let's assume they will.

It wouldn't be Elite without some season-long mystery, so presumably the affluent students of Las Encinas will soon find themselves embroiled in another insane drama. The ongoing saga that started with Marina's murder has been brought to a close, so it's likely whatever crime is at the center of the fourth season won't be related to that at all. This would make it quite easy for the writers to leave Samuel, Guzmán, and the others out of whatever's happening. However, provided the drama still takes place at Las Encinas, they're bound to appear and get involved somehow.

Beyond that, while Ander and Omar found some closure, a two fan-favorite pairings are still split. Nadia and Guzmán, while promising to return to each other, are on opposite sides of the ocean, and Carla and Samuel are a massive question mark. It would be upsetting for fans if these two couples never get proper closure, so if season 4 opts to keep the original group around, expect some emotional reunions. On the other hand, the final moments of season 3 had the feeling of a series finale, so perhaps there won't be any further closure. These students have found some peace, and now they're going to enjoy it. After all the murder, backstabbing, and wild hookups, Elite somehow managed to end season 3 on a peaceful note.
