Popular space flight simulator Elite Dangerous is currently free on the Epic Games Store almost all week long, with the offer ending on November 27. Elite Dangerous was announced last week as one of the two games the platform is giving away for free this week, with the other being indie visual novel and puzzle game The World Next Door. It was also announced that after Elite Dangerous and The World Next Door, off-roading simulation game MudRunner from Saber Interactive and Focus Home Interactive will be free on the store.

Elite Dangerous and The World Next Door are the latest free games Epic Games is giving away on their platform. Last month, the company gave away a suite of spooky games for Halloween. The company’s sustained campaign to give away free games on their platform almost every week has helped its userbase grow significantly since it started. As for those who decide to grab and play Elite Dangerous on the Epic Games Store won’t have to worry about not being able to play with users on Steam, where the game is also available, as crossplay between Epic Games Store and Steam is available. Only crossplay between PC and console players is currently unavailable.

Elite Dangerous can be claimed for free on the Epic Games Store and will continue to be free until November 27, 2020 at 12:00 AM local time. Once claimed, it will be downloadable and playable even after the free period expires but users who fail to claim the game before November 27 will have to wait for it to be given away for free again or purchase it at full price. The version of Elite Dangerous on the Epic Games Store already includes the game’s Horizons expansion as well as the Beyond season of free updates that came out afterwards.

Developer Frontier Developments, announced the inclusion of the Horizons expansion in the base game last October. According to the developer, the decision to give away the Horizons expansions was in preparation for the upcoming Odyssey expansion. The upcoming expansion will be the game’s next major content update and will introduce a first-person shooter component into the game, which is similar to the Squadron 42 component of Star Citizen that uses motion capture technology for its character models.

Giving away Elite Dangerous on the Epic Games Store is definitely a great way to get more players to try out the game and with the inclusion of the Horizons expansion, there’s going to be a lot of content for new players to experience before the release of the Odyssey expansion next year.
