Like many other MMORPGs, Elder Scrolls Online has an emphasis on different roles, such as tank builds. DPS and healer/caster classes can work alongside a good tank to defeat the most dangerous foes in ESO. While some class builds may suit some players better than others, there are surefire builds to succeed as a tank.

Players can use any class to create a tank build, but there are three classes that are best suited to the task. The Dragonknight, Necromancer, and Warden classes are most efficient at tanking in Elder Scrolls Online. Using any of these classes as a tank will not make players better at ESO, but these classes will set up tank characters for swifter success.

Dragonknight Tank - The first and most popular tank build centers around the Dragonknight class. Dragonknights’ skills and passives make them the class most suited to tanking in ESO. Dragonknights have strong self-healing and resource management with their unique passives. Dragonknight tanks can use abilities like Igneous Shield to absorb damage and increase healing, or Magma Shell to give players invulnerability. Dragonknights also have a unique ability, Unrelenting Grip, which uses chains to pull mobs of enemies toward the player. These abilities are great for controlling and corralling mobs of enemies. Plus, Dragonknight tanks tend to have a rad appearance for their gear on the battlefield.

Necromancer Tank - A second good tank build in Elder Scrolls Online, revolves around the necromancer class. Necromancers have plenty of skills to serve as an efficient tank build. Necromancer tanks are especially powerful when players go down the Bone Tyrant skill line, which gives players abilities that transform them into an ultimate tank. Necromancer tanks also have skills for healing themselves and others. Necromancer tanks have skills like the Hungry Scythe ability, which scales players’ max health for a quick heal, and Spirit Ward, which summons a healing ghost. These skills are especially helpful when the healer isn’t performing their duties well.

Warden Tank - The last phenomenal tank build revolves around the Warden class. Warden tanks generally supply exceptional group support with their skills. Wardens have even better healing than necromancers with added sustain and group support abilities. Warden tanks have abilities like Ice Fortress, which gives the party Major Resolve, which increases armor & spell resistance by a significant amount. Warden tanks also have skills like Leeching Vines, which add extra healing power to the party, and Enchanted Forest, which gives a huge instant heal to all party members in an AoE. Even with the best-crafted gear in Elder Scrolls Online, a tank that is also a healer will always be valuable.
