It looks like The Elder Scrolls VI might not be Xbox-exclusive after all, possibly making its way to the PlayStation 5 at some point in the future after PlayStation's official blog teases The Elder Scrolls VI as an anticipated title on it's platform(s). While it is more of a hint than an announcement, it's a good indicator that the popular Bethesda title might not be as beholden to Microsoft's consoles as was originally thought.

When Microsoft bought ZeniMax Media and Bethesda back in September, it gained an edge in the ongoing console war with Sony by taking exclusive ownership of some of gaming's most popular and profitable franchises: most notably DOOM, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls. PlayStation devotees lamented what appeared to be the loss of some of the best series on their console of choice, but there was a glimmer of hope rekindled when Bethesda producer Todd Howard stated in an interview that it was hard to imagine Elder Scrolls VI as Xbox-exclusive. It was a straw, but fans of the series not willing to shell out for another pricy current-gen console eagerly grasped it.

And now it looks like Sony is offering up another straw. On December 8, Sony opened up the Game of the Year polls on PlayStation Blog to let players vote on the best that 2020 had to offer. And in the "Most Anticipated Game" section, nestled between Elden Ring and Far Cry 6was none other than The Elder Scrolls VI. It's entirely possible that this addition has no basis in reality, but it's fairly unlikely that Sony would include the title if it didn't have some degree of confidence about it coming to the PlayStation 5, even if it's some time after The Elder Scrolls VI releases for Xbox Series X - whenever that may be.

PlayStation 5 Game of the Year Poll 2020

While Microsoft, Sony, and Bethesda are still keeping mum about whether or not the game is actually destined to make its way to the PlayStation 5, or if this is just speculation on Sony's part, taking Howard's earlier remarks about the game's exclusivity (or lack thereof) to Xbox does give the poll a bit more substance. Until it's confirmed by Bethesda, Sony, or Microsoft, it should still be treated as wishful thinking at best.

Regardless, The Elder Scrolls VI isn't coming out any time soon; even though the title was announced in 2018, it has yet to see any definitive release date. So whether or not it'll come out for PlayStation should currently be the least of fans' concern, since speculation is all players can do for now anyway.
