The massively anticipated Elder Scrolls VI is most likely still in pre-production, according to a recent post. This bit of news follows years upon years of hype for the game, which is set to follow 2011's best-selling The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim but about which very little is known to this day.

When it comes to popular RPG franchises in gaming, The Elder Scrolls regularly tops any list of the most iconic. The popular series got its start in the mid-90s, eventually breaking into the HD-era of gaming with The Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion and smashing records with Skyrim in 2011. Since that game was released, however, things have been mostly silent for the franchise; Skyrim has been re-released and ported half a dozen times over the course of the last decade, and aside from The Elder Scrolls Online, which was not developed by Bethesda Game Studios, fans have been starved for a new entry. Bethesda would eventually confirm that The Elder Scrolls VI would materialize back at E3 2018, but there has been nothing in terms of gameplay, screenshots, or detailed descriptions of what the title might look like.

There is a solid reason for this, if a recently uncovered description of Bethesda Game Studios on LinkedIn is believed to be accurate. The description, which was shared by Timur222 on Twitter, gives a cursory overview of Bethesda Game Studios' accomplishments and past releases, finishing with a statement promoting Starfield and casually mentioning that The Elder Scrolls VI is still in pre-production.

This will likely come as a bit of a disappointment for some fans who were hoping for a release date for Bethesda's next open-world RPG. While Bethesda head Todd Howard has previously made numerous comments regarding how far away the game is from release, this news also indicates that it will be a while before any gameplay is made available. The long delay in beginning production is certainly tied to Starfield, which has been reported to be in development since the studio wrapped things up with Fallout 4.

There is also a chance that this LinkedIn post is simply inaccurate or outdated and that The Elder Scrolls VI has indeed begun development, although that seems unlikely; Starfield is shaping up to be a major release for the legendary studio, and it would be quite an undertaking to have both it and The Elder Scrolls VI in production at the same time. The Elder Scrolls VI will come out someday, but fans will most likely have to wait until after Starfield's release for more information.
