It turns out that the most downloaded Elden Ring mod is one that makes the game easier to play. FromSoftware's latest smash hit title has proven to have more mainstream appeal than its previous outings thanks to its broad open world and accessible gameplay features. Still, while some Elden Ring bosses can be defeated easily, the game maintains that typical FromSoftware level of brutal, unflinching difficulty.
There are countless mods available for Elden Ring. Modders have tweaked the game in a number of ways since its release, offering up new gameplay opportunities, unique features, and implementations that make the game's bizarre world even stranger. With so many mods shaking up the Elden Ring formula, some fans might be wondering if there's anything available to make the game easier, as The Lands Between can be quite inhospitable to newcomers, with enemies throwing unpredictable attacks and bosses frequently eliminating the player character in a single hit.
While there are actually mods that make Elden Ring harder, an Easy Mode for Elden Ring mod was posted to NexusMods on March 12 by user Odashikonbu (via Kotaku). The mod is split into three versions. There's the Damage Edit Only version, which increases player damage by 25%, increases damage radius, reduces enemy damage by 50%, and increases HP/FP replenishment from flask use. The Damage Tweak + 10x Rune (and 2x Flask heal) version offers the same changes as the first but also boosts Rune discovery tenfold. Finally, there is the Personal Edit version, serving up a host of miscellaneous buffs in addition to those mentioned above. As with all mods, players should download this one at their own risk.
It's not uncommon for the difficulty to be a point of contention when it comes to FromSoftware games, and Elden Ring is no different. While the game's director actually apologized to Elden Ring players who thought the game was too hard at launch, there are many gamers who feel the opposite, and view using exploits like this mod as a way of cheapening the experience. The difficulty is positioned at the center of FromSoftware's games, so it makes sense that some players would view "easy mode" mods as tainting Elden Ring.
With that said, Elden Ring has been criticized for its lack of accessibility. With games like The Last of Us Part II and Assassin's Creed Valhalla going a long way to make themselves available to gamers with physical limitations or even just a lack of experience, some might think that vanilla Elden Ring doesn't do enough in this regard. If players feel that they can't enjoy, or even complete, Elden Ring out of the box, then mods like this one are inevitable.
