A new update for Elden Ring has been released, bringing major fixes for errors like undetected PC GPUs, a bug that would cause games to crash during the Fire Giant boss battle, and much more. FromSoftware's much-anticipated role-playing game Elden Ring launched last week after gathering and building nonstop speculation and hype from excited fans for years. While reviews celebrated it upon its launch, the title caught some criticism due to technical issues that were left unaddressed by its developers. Most importantly, Elden Ring had issues running even on high-end PCs, with players reporting poor graphical performance despite having computer specs above the recommended level.

With a near-perfect launch, Elden Ring peaked at more than 800,000 players on Steam but was shortly met with angry players who review bombed the title on Steam largely due to stuttering issues, frame rate drops, and apparent crashes. Upon release, Elden Ring carried "Mixed" reviews on Steam despite being one of the best-rated games of all time, with more than 40% of its reviews on the platform being negative. However, since then, FromSoftware has released minor patches to fix many of the third-person action RPG's issues and now sits at "Very Positive," with many more updates on the way to rejuvenate the title.

Announced on Twitter, FromSoftware revealed update 1.02.2 for Elden Ring, which brings major fixes to many of the common graphics issues and crash players have been dealing with. While the previous 1.0.2 addressed various graphical issues and frame rate drops, the newest update has fixed an issue where the PC version of the game would not use a computer’s graphics card, disabling players from running the title. Furthermore, the Fire Giant bug has been addressed and players can now battle the Fire Giant boss without the game crashing. With the PS5 version suffering from sudden game crashes and random console shutdowns, the latest patch has also implemented a change to the save game progression so players don't lose their data just in case they don't exit the game themselves.

Despite being riddled with technical issues, Elden Ring continues to topple records, as recent analytics have revealed that FromSoftware's newest title is the third most-viewed game on Twitch in recent history. Receiving almost 900,000 views upon release, the title additionally topped the peak Twitch viewership of FromSoftware games by almost triple, with the studio's last game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice peaking at only 280,000 viewers. With the PC version becoming more stable, these numbers could possibly change and heighten.

Elden Ring is wildly regarded as a gaming masterpiece and while the title has suffered several technical issues, it is a high contender for 2022's game of the year. Players can finally enjoy the much-anticipated role-playing game at its fullest, as the latest 1.02.2 patch is officially out, with many more updates on the way in the future.
