It seems that Elden Ring won't just be a video game, as Bandai Namco has confirmed that it will be developed into a franchise in other ventures. Elden Ring is one of the most highly-anticipated games of the moment, as it's the next entry in the Soulsborne series.

The reason fans are more excited for Elden Ring than they were for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is due to the pedigree behind its creation. Not only is Elden Ring being created by the minds behind Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne, but it also has George R.R. Martin on board. Martin is the creator of the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series, which was adapted for television as Game of Thrones. The union between the creators of Dark Souls and A Song of Ice and Fire is extremely exciting to fans, which helped fuel the incredible hype around Elden Ring.

Fans eagerly awaited news for Elden Ring for what seemed like an eternity, with every leak and theory drawing the attention of the gaming public. The first gameplay trailer for Elden Ring was shown at Summer Games Fest 2021, giving everyone a proper glimpse at its dark fantasy world. Elden Ring won't just be constrained to a single video game, however. Bandai Namco CEO & president Yasuo Miyakawa mentioned in the initial press release for Elden Ring (via Game Rant) that the story of Elden Ring will be told in other mediums as well.

We will continue to develop ELDEN RING not only as a game but also in a variety of other areas in order to deliver the worldview and charm of this title to our fans around the world.

This wouldn't be the first time that a FromSoftware game has had spin-off media, as Bloodborne had its own comics. It wouldn't be surprising to see an Elden Ring comic, but Miyawaka's comments hint at something bigger. It's possible that there could be Elden Ring books in the future or even animated projects. It's even possible that live-action offerings could be on the way, in the vein of Netflix's The Witcher series. If Elden Ring is a hit, then it could even become its own series, in the same way Dark Souls received sequels.

The main question is how much George R.R. Martin is involved in these projects. His aversion to completing The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring are well known, and an Elden Ring multimedia project could become another one of his distractions. This is all speculation at this point and it's entirely possible that Martin's work on Elden Ring was finished a long time ago.
