The recently implemented 1.05 patch for Elden Ring has added an element that makes finishing Ranni the Witch's quest line a little bit easier. FromSoftware's June 13 update to its massively successful open-world title also fixed a variety of bugs while including a few more minor additions, such as sound effects for Elden Ring multiplayer summon signs or emphasis on certain choices at the site of grace menu.

Elden Ring contains many components that made previous FromSoftware titles such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne so successful. The open-world format, however, called for a variety of changes to be made to the proven formula and the sheer number of adjustments have grown with the game's popularity. FromSoftware's intentionally vague design philosophy, which in the past has contributed to the notorious difficulty of Soulslike titles, has steadily been lessened in an effort to make Elden Ring more accessible to mainstream audiences than its predecessors.

Patch 1.05 is the latest attempt from the developers to make Elden Ring more balanced and it includes a relatively simple adjustment that was noticed by Reddit user dark4mje. Following the game update, after the Tarnished defeats Starscourge Radahn, a marker will now appear on the game map indicating the location of where the star crashed in the cutscene following the boss battle. This also marks the location to the entrance of a hidden area that is necessary for any player who wishes to complete Ranni the Witch's extensive quest line.

FromSoftware still appears to be finding the right balance when it comes to sharing information about Elden Ring and the Lands Between. While previous Soulslike games had no map of any kind and relied solely on memory, Elden Ring's size has proven these design choices could not translate to this particular format. Patch 1.05 is not the first update to add quest markers to Elden Ring and it may not be the last.

Leaving the Elden Ring map intentionally vague at launch and during the following weeks encouraged exploration and gave players a sense of wonder as they made new discoveries. Now that the majority of the Lands Between has been thoroughly examined, it makes less sense to keep that information vague as any lost player can simply look up the answer online. Elden Ring's map markers are still vague when compared to many other mainstream titles, but they provide enough information to make checking online not nearly as prevalent as with previous FromSoftware titles.
