Makar the Magma Wyrm is a Dragon in Elden Ring that guards the exit of the Ruin-Strewn Precipice, the optional route to Altus Plateau for those looking to skip the Grand Lift of Dectus. To reach this location, Tarnished pilgrims must trek through the Ravine in North Liurnia, which can be accessed by traveling north of the Sorcerer's Isle. At the end of the long gorge, players will find a Golden Seed and the entrance to Ravine-Veiled Village, which connects to the Precipice above.

The Ruin-Strewn Precipice Dungeon leading to Makar's den is crawling with Miners, Imp Miners, Giants Bats, and Harpies. Once Tarnished adventurers make it to the Magma Wyrm's lair, they have the option to summon three NPCs to aid them in battle. Great Horned Tragoth is available by default, but the player can also have Blackguard and Millicent join if their respective questlines have been progressed far enough. However, be mindful that summoning these allies will cause Makar's HP to significantly increase, causing the boss fight to become much more challenging if the NPCs end up perishing in combat.

Even though Tarnished travelers may have already activated the Grand Lift of Dectus and reached the Altus Plateau, they still might want to go back and defeat Makar for the rewards. Killing the named Magma Wyrm will grant players 24,000 Runes, a Dragon Heart, and the Magma Wyrm's Scalesword, a mighty Curved Greatsword imbued with the Magma Guillotine weapon art in Elden Ring.

How To Defeat Makar In Elden Ring

Makar the Magma Wyrm Location In Elden Ring and Cheese Boss Fight

Suppose Tarnished adventurers have explored Gael Tunnel or braved the Magma Wyrm's molten lair west of Volcano Manor. In that case, they will already have a familiar understanding of Makar's boss mechanics and phase moveset. Makar wields the Scalesword above, which it will use to execute a variety of slams and slashes. Be mindful that its smash attacks will send out a shockwave, and the swiping moves have a notably far reach. Furthermore, the Elden Ring Dragon can spew molten lava that remains onto the ground for a short while. Therefore, Tarnished fighters must always be moving about the arena to avoid getting scorched.

Makar's primary attacks that might cause players trouble are its charge and combos. When charging, the Wyrm will pursue its target while leaving behind a trail of lava. As for the Dragon's combos, the rearing animations can make dodge-roll timing quite tricky. Thus, it's highly recommended that melee and ranged-attack users use the arena's central pillar to their advantage to thwart both spewing and slash attacks from the beast. Furthermore, staying behind the boss's hind legs is also a sound strategy to avoid most abilities.

Alternatively, there is a way to cheese the Makar the Magma Wyrm in Elden Ring. From the Abandoned Coffin Site of Grace, leap down the elevator shaft that leads to Makar's lair. The player will die upon impact but will trigger the lift's button, causing it to ascend to the surface. Take the elevator down and walk up to the mist barrier. Using a ranged Spell such as Rock Sling or Rotten Breath will allow Tarnished to attack Makar through the wall and kill it without even entering the boss room.
