To cross the Lake of Rot in Elden Ring, players have a few different options at their disposal. Anyone with a Faith of 12 of higher should consider learning the Incantation Flame, Cleanse Me. In exchange for a small fraction of a player's HP, this spell will cleanse the status effect and buildup of Scarlet Rot that accumulates as players attempt to get across the Lake of Rot.

Flame, Cleanse Me is located south of the Eastern Tableland Site of Grace in Liurnia, within a Fire Monk Camp. To see exactly where to get it to help you cross the Lake of Rot safely, check out the YouTube video from TonysKillShot below:

Another solution would be to carry rot-curing Preserving Boluses, consumables made from Dewkissed Herba, Crystal Cave Moss, a rare Sacramental Bud. The recipe book needed to craft Preserving Boluses, Armorer's Cookbook [6], can be found near the Siofra River Bank's Site of Grace. However, there will be situations when players do not have the stats to use Flame, Cleanse Me to get rid of Scarlet Rot, or lack enough Preserving Boluses to get all the way across Elden Ring's Lake of Rot. In this case, there are still feasible strategies players can use.

How To Get Through The Lake Of Rot

One way to cross the Lake of Rot in Elden Ring involves "bulldozing" oneself through the rot, sprinting non-stop across the lake to the southwest until reaching the next Site of Grace. For this to work, players will need to allocate all their available Flasks into Crimson Tears. 7-10 Flasks should be sufficient to survive the Lake of Rot, depending on how many of Elden Ring's Sacred Tears players have found and how much HP they have. To get across the Lake of Rot starting from the northern shore, run straight for the Grand Cloister ruins, not stopping until reaching the Grace.

Alternatively, there is the standard-yet-risky method of crossing the Lake of Rot; unlocking new footpaths by triggering the pressure plates at the obelisks scattered across the lake itself. Players can use these areas as rest points to heal up, use a consumable, or simply wait for the Scarlet Rot buildup to diminish. The pillars should stand out as safety spots, but be wary of the hidden death-spewing basilisks that will ambush the player upon arrival.

Remember to go right after arriving at the large platform with the single broken pillar! Players who go left at this point while getting across the Lake of Rot will be confronted with a Dragonkin Soldier.

Best Armor To Cross The Lake Of Rot

The Mushroom Armor Set in Elden Ring.

For both the "bulldozing" approach and cautious method, wearing Elden Ring's Mushroom Set can be a considerable advantage for crossing the Lake of Rot. Upon donning the fungal outfit, adventurers will receive substantial resistance to rot buildup, allowing them to cross the zone with significantly less suffering. This armor set can be found within the Seethewater Cave of Mt. Gelmir's river canyon.
