Bosses in Elden Ring have always been difficult, but occasionally players may find some bosses like the God-Devouring Serpent to be impossible to beat. This isn’t due to the difficulty, but rather to a glitch that renders it invulnerable. It is frustrating to be sure, but luckily it is fixable if players encounter it. Better yet, players don’t even have to wait for the developers to come out with a patch.

Glitches of this nature can happen in other areas of the game too. When players encounter a glitch, it can cause a whole lot of unintended things to happen. For example, players may encounter an event where a cutscene is supposed to trigger. Instead, the game crashes. In a game that is as massive as Elden Ring, there are bound to be more than a few bugs, just like Skyrim. In this case, the God-Devouring Serpent will get to zero HP, but won't die. There is a reason that it happens to this boss specifically due to how to fight is structured. The problem comes from the game files of Elden Ring getting corrupted.

If players are having problems like with the God-Devouring Serpent or in other areas of the game, it probably means the game files have somehow gotten corrupted. Once they fix the corrupted files, Elden Ring should run normally. Now they will be able to beat the God-Devouring Serpent, or at least attempt to. How players can fix their corrupted files will depend on which system they are using. It is not a complicated process for any system though.

Luckily, there is a relatively easy fix for players. The developers have released several patches for Elden Ring, but this particular bug and others still persist. If a player is playing Elden Ring on Steam, try verifying the integrity of the game files. This is done by either clicking on the gear icon on the game’s page, or right-clicking on the game in the game list. Click on Properties, and then click on Local Files. One of the options is to Verify integrity of game files. After validating the Steam files, it will tell players whether any files are corrupted. Once they are fixed, hopefully, it will solve the problem.

For those playing Elden Ring on either PlayStation 4 or 5, the best bet is for players to try restarting the console. Press the PS button on the controller, navigate to the power icon, and select Restart PS5 or PS4. When players start the game again, it will hopefully have fixed the problem. Note that this is not a factory reset.

For Xbox consoles, it is a similar process. Press the Xbox button on the controller, navigate over to Profile & system, select Power, and then Restart the console. Start Elden Ring again, and the game should work as intended.
