Gameplay footage surfaced recently which was allegedly from the hotly-anticipated Elden Ring, but this clip has since been debunked as a fraud. The game is being developed by FromSoftware in collaboration with Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin, creating an absolute dream team for a video game. That said, it's been years since fans have heard anything regarding the game outside of leaks, many of which are routinely debunked.

A very brief, and relatively uninteresting, clip of Elden Ring supposedly leaked online the other day showing off some environments. The clip was a bit suspect, given its relative lack of subject matter and very short length. But given how promising the title is and how long it has been since it was released, fans are understandably desperate, and many clung to the hope that this was legitimate footage.

Reddit user Blue_Affinity noted that the video came from 3D freelance artist Jack Phan and was being incorrectly passed around as authentic footage from Elden Ring. Sadly, this is just yet another set back for fans. That said, there was an authentic leak not too long ago. Elden Ring footage leaked a few months ago, reportedly resulting in FromSoftware delaying the game's actual reveal. Whether or not FromSoftware is in the process of planning such a reveal is, of course, unknown, but fans are hopeful.

Little is known regarding the title, but it has been confirmed that Elden Ring is an open-world game that will be an evolution of the Souls genre that FromSoftware has popularized. George R.R. Martin is also assisting in helping flesh out the world, something that has always been an incredibly important thing to fans of the Souls games given their deep lore. It's not exactly clear what is taking so long to get Elden Ring ready, but hopefully, it won't be much longer.

It has been hinted that Elden Ring may be delayed internally, but given that fans have waited this long, maybe it'd be better to keep waiting a little bit longer instead of getting a rushed and less-than-ideal game. Still, there are plenty of rumors that the game will make an appearance at E3 2021, and hopefully that will mean proper gameplay to tide everyone over until it releases. If nothing else, that might curb this ongoing rash of fake leaks. It's not clear when the game will release, and COVID-19 may have resulted in the title taking longer than expected, but hopefully, fans will get to play Elden Ring within the next year or two.
