An Elden Ring modder has taken it upon themselves to make the FromSoftware-developed RPG even more difficult with a Prepare to Die mod. Several noteworthy mods have already taken the internet by storm, with one Elden Ring hack even unlocking access to hidden areas. YouTuber Garden of Eyes uncovered the unused content in question, which reveals that coliseums in the game world actually feature fully designed interiors. Players hope such content will eventually see the light of day in an official capacity via future updates or DLC expansions.

FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment released Elden Ring late last month on PC and consoles to widespread acclaim. Despite a few lingering graphical and performance issues, the title has already been labeled a masterpiece. Sales data suggests millions of players around the globe have become quite enamored with the Lands Between setting, too. This week, Bandai Namco announced that Elden Ring's impressive sales numbers allowed it to move more than 12 million units in less than three weeks on the market. It's quite the feat for any game, let alone a Souls title.

Over on Nexus Mods, PC modder Silentverge (via Wccftech) uploaded an all-new Elden Ring mod simply titled Prepare to Die. This "Hard Mode" warns players of its extreme difficulty since the mod revamps enemy AI and stats to a degree that significantly increases the challenge beyond mere health and damage boosts. As of writing, the available content in Prepare to Die includes New Game Plus stats for enemy damage, defense, and resistances. The mod also boasts enhanced AI, allowing foes to hear players coming from further away; in addition, enemies now search longer and harder for their prey. Even the Souls franchise's tried and true backstab maneuver won't prove as reliable in Prepare to Die. Moreover, those interested in downloading Silentverge's creation should know their Tarnished will only have the option to warp to cathedrals and churches.

In notes on the Nexus Mods page, Silentverge said they decided to create this particular mod after constantly seeing "Easy Mode" builds hit the web. How exactly Elden Ring players will take to Prepare to Die remains unknown for now, but it seems as though those who prefer a challenge should look no further than this formidable-sounding Hard Mode.

The Elden Ring hype train doesn't end with last month's release. FromSoftware and Bandai Namco also plan on expanding the new IP beyond the interactive medium, according to recent word from both entities. What that may entail is anyone's guess at present; however, the continued rise of gaming properties migrating to television, film, comics, and novels suggests Elden Ring's multimedia ventures will one day span far and wide.
