Quick Links

The Cathedral of Dragon Communion is a ruined Cathedral in Elden Ring located in the southwest area of the Caelid region. The quickest way to reach the Cathedral of Dragon Communion is to travel to the Caelid Highway South Site of Grace and follow the main road east until reaching a fork in the road. Head south from the fork and the Cathedral should be in view. Entering the Cathedral gains players access to the Dragon Altar, which can be interacted with to unlock Dragon Communion Incantations.

If the Caelid Highway South Site of Grace is not yet unlocked in Elden Ring or if the player still has not reached the Caelid region then simply head to the nearest Site of Grace closest to Caelid, located east of the map, and then follow the main road further into the Caelid Region until reaching the aforementioned fork in the road. There is only one enemy at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion location, a Banished Knight guarding the entrance to the Cathedral. This enemy is heavily armored and deals high damage, but has a great armor set. Once defeated, Elden Ring's Dragon Altar will be easily accessible.

There is a lot of interesting lore and backstory to the Banished Knights. Elden Ring players interested in learning more about them should check out the video below from Square Table Gaming on YouTube, which details what happened to this group before the start of the game:

Dragon Communion Altar Location

The Dragon Communion Altar is located directly in the middle of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion ruins. Players can interact with it to purchase Dragon Incantations, which are strong magical attacks that channel the power of dragons. Dragon Hearts are necessary to purchase Dragon Incantations and mainly require a high Faith Stat in Elden Ring, as well as moderate Arcane Stat. Dragon Hearts are obtained by killing Great Dragons located all over the world. After defeating Great Dragons, more potent Incantations will be available at the Dragon Altar.

Check out our guide on All Dragon & Dragon Heart Locations to unlock all the Cathedral of Dragon Communion's best spells!

These stronger versions cost two Dragon Hearts compared to the standard versions which are worth one Dragon Heart in Elden Ring. In order to make the best use of these Dragon Communion Incantations, it is highly recommended to use the Dragon Communion Seal which increases the potency of all Dragon Communion Incantations and scales with the Faith and Arcane Stats to match perfectly with any sort of Dragon Communion build. After purchasing four Dragon Communion Incantations from the Dragon Altar in Elden Ring, the player's character model will develop draconic, yellow glowing eyes. Players can always visit an Appearance Editor to change their eyes back to normal.

Limgrave's Cathedral of Dragon Communion

There is actually another Cathedral of Dragon Communion Elden Ring players may end up stumbling across before encountering any dragons at all. In Limgrave there is a cave which contains a secret tunnel to the small island off the coast, and on that island is another Dragon Church and Dragon Communion Altar.
