Elden Ring has many unique areas within its world, including the dangerous and disturbing Caelid region. The Lands Between, Elden Ring's world is massive. There are several unique biomes throughout the world, and one of these is the Caelid Wilds. It has the appearance of a coral reef but with a corrupted red hue. It serves as a warning to players to never let their guard down in this area.

There is lore explaining why the region looks as it does. The short version is that it was the site of a massive battle, and now the region in Elden Ring is afflicted by powerful enemies and by the deadly Scarlet Rot. Scarlet Rot is a status effect dealing damage over time. It is essentially a stronger version of poison. While poison does a little bit of damage over time, Caelid's Scarlet Rot quickly diminishes the health of players. Sure, it is not immediately fatal, but players may quickly run out of flasks of crimson tears.

Players will come across ancient battlegrounds in Caelid, but it is still a wartorn region. They might encounter siege towers or massive trebuchets. Buildings in this area lie in ruins, though that is frequently the case in many places in Elden Ring. Battles rage across the face of Caelid, with factions of NPCs fighting against each other. Players can intervene if they wish, but if they stand nearby, they still get runes when enemies perish. It's not the most profitable way for players to AFK farm in Elden Ring, but it won't annoy other players.

How Strong You Should Be Before Visiting Caelid in Elden Ring

Players are free to enter Caelid at whatever level they choose. However, the recommended levels are around 60-70. This ensures that the content will be challenging and limit the frustration of repeatedly dying. Players should also have decent weapons with several upgrades and good protective armor. This advice applies to the southern region of Caelid, though. Traveling north puts players in Dragonbarrow, which is a much higher-level area in Elden Ring.

Players can get to the Caelid Wilds early on. It is possible to walk or ride there from East Limgrave, but players may also likely end up there against their will. Players may get ensnared in a transporter trap in the Dragon-Burnt Ruins and transported to the Sellia Crystal Tunnel. They will need to either fight or run to escape. Considering how dangerous Elden Ring's region of Caelid is and the level recommended to survive, the second option is probably the one most players will choose. The transporter trap in Elden Ring’s Dragon-Burnt Ruins is likely one of the first players will encounter, so they might be under-leveled when they first get to Caelid.

If players do get to Caelid too early, they can just leave and come back later. After all, there are many places to explore in Elden Ring. Players that are appropriately leveled will most likely have beaten the boss at Stormveil Castle and spent some time in Liurnia of the Lakes. They might have even beaten the boss of Raya Lucaria Academy. When players get to this point, they will know that they are ready to brave the dangerous wilds of Caelid.
