Berserk readers can find and wield a weapon that looks strikingly similar to Guts' greatsword, Dragon Slayer, thanks to a cool Easter egg in Elden Ring. The devastating and sudden death of Kentaro Miura, the author of the beloved dark fantasy manga, shook fans to their core last year. Berserk is one of the most influential works in the genre and its creator had a great impact on Dark Souls and other FromSoftware games. This giant sword is iconic and is represented in a plethora of different media. By including Guts' Dragon Slayer in Elden Ring, FromSoftware is paying homage to the author that left his mark on the world.

Berserk is a dark fantasy Japanese manga series set in medieval Europe. The story follows a mercenary named Guts as he fights horrifying demons. In the manga, he effortlessly swings his massive sword, quickly dispatching any but the strongest of his foes. The world is dark, gruesome, and can oftentimes be relentlessly brutal. However, Berserk is less about the action and is more of a character study, about the struggles of dealing with the trauma of war and suffering. Confronted with seemingly insurmountable odds, Guts pushes on, fueled by his revenge against the demons. Without the influence of Kentaro Miura's work, the FromSoftware games fans love today may not exist. Berserk inspired key parts of Dark Souls and, as a spiritual successor to the series, influenced Elden Ring.

Keeping the weapon similar to the manga, the greatsword in Elden Ring is extremely heavy and can only be wielded by those with an impressive amount of strength. The sword comes with the default Weapon Skill "Stamp." The in-game description for the ability reads, "Brace armament and step into a low stance that prevents recoil from most enemy attacks." Afterward, players follow with a big upward strike. To use the weapon unhindered, the Tarnished must have 31 Strength and 12 Dexterity stats. While players can acquire the greatsword rather early, they may need to spend more time leveling up first. Berserk fans can make their way to the site of Guts' Dragon Slayer, by making the dangerous journey to Caelid.

Where To Find Guts' Greatsword In Elden Ring

Elden Ring Caelid Berserk Greatsword

Elden Ring keeps some Dark Souls themes alive, by placing a coveted weapon in a treacherous location. Luckily, players do not have to travel too far into Caelid to retrieve the greatsword. The region is Northeast of Limgrave, but the journey may take a while if conducted before obtaining their horse. Near the western border of the area, players can find a chest, containing the weapon, on top of a big black wagon. Surrounding the vehicle are giant monstrous dogs that can deal significant damage to low leveled characters. Players need to sneak up and open the chest, before escaping the danger. If done correctly, the greatsword can be acquired without too much trouble.

Elsewhere on Elden Ring's map, toward the south, is a possible mural dedicated to Miura. In a video uploaded by worcrimson, the Tarnished can encounter a site littered with more swords similar to the greatsword players can wield themselves. This could serve as an additional and equally emotional tribute to the Berserk creator, whose works have influenced FromSoftware's games for years.

Berserk's influence on FromSoftware can be easily seen in the boss, character, and world designs of the studio's many games. To some players, Elden Ring feels like the final Souls Game. If true, then the best way to pay homage to one of its biggest inspirations is with this final Easter egg. Kentaro Miura's passing was tragic, but his legacy will be remembered every time a player acquires the Dragon Slayer in Elden Ring.
