In Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, the first movie in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, the devilish-looking Sith warrior named Darth Maul was a taciturn terror, a relentless combatant who slew Qui-Gon Jinn with his relentless double-bladed lightsaber technique before getting literally cut in half by a young Obi-Wawn Kenobi. Star War video game and TV show adaptations such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars revealed Darth Maul surviving his bisection, becoming the secretive leader of a crime syndicate and a more fleshed-out character tragically doomed by his thirst for revenge against those who hurt and abandoned him.
