Elden Ring departs from FromSowftare's previous series, Dark Souls, by ditching attunement and choosing to instead make the number of spells a character can memorize at a time be reliant on special items called Memory Stones. The game contains a total of eight Memory Stones that players can obtain, which, coupled with the two slots all characters start with, allows them to memorize a maximum of 10 sorceries or incantations. Players will find these throughout the game by killing bosses in Elden Ring, opening chests, or buying them from merchants. For players wishing to make spells a core part of their character, Memory Stones will be an invaluable asset for them to seek.

Attunement in the Dark Souls series was a stat that players could level up to, primarily, increase the number of spells they could memorize simultaneously. Much like in Elden Ring, this number was also capped at 10, but reaching that maximum required a considerable investment in souls, which were the series equivalent to runes. Tying memorization to an item instead of currency can allow for more flexibility when building a character, as players won't need to farm a high number of runes in Elden Ring to achieve the same result.

Players who feel like 10 slots are not enough or want to increase their memorization before finding all Memory Stones can try and grab the Moon of Nokstella talisman. This item will provide players with two extra memorization slots but is not exactly easy to acquire. In order to get to its location in Nokstella, Eternal City, they will need to advance Ranni's questline enough to gain access to Renna's Rise, which contains a waygate leading there.

Where to Find All Memory Stones in Elden Ring

Memory Stone 1

Players can get a Memory Stone pretty early on by heading to Oridy's Rise in the Weeping Peninsula, south of Limgrave, Elden Ring's starting zone. At the base of the tower, they will find a statue holding a book that they can interact with. This will spawn three ghostly turtles that the players must find and defeat. The first two will be near the statue: one right in front of it, and the other a few feet behind it, hidden in some bushes near the tower. The third one will be invisible in the middle of a pond to the west of the Rise. Hit all three to unlock the way to the top and the first Memory Stone.

The second Stone players will likely have access to next is at Roundtable Hold, Elden Ring's hub. To get there, they will need to leave the starting zone of Limgrave and rest at a Site of Grace, after which Malenia will appear and offer to teleport the player there. After spawning at the Hold, head left to meet the Twin Maiden Husks, which sell a Memory Stone for 3 000 runes.

Memory Stone 3

Elden Ring Converted Tower Map Location Memory Stone

As players arrive at Liurnia of the Lakes, they can head directly to the Converted Tower to the southeast to search for their third Memory Stone. When arriving, players will notice there is no conventional way to climb the tower, as they are supposed to use a special Elden Ring gesture, Erudition, in front of the large statue to spawn a magical ladder. However, players can bypass that by climbing the ruined wall around the building and using it to reach the balcony. Then, simply climb to the top and open the chest to find the third Stone.

After that, head north to find Testu's Rise, where players will find another statue holding a book, much like in Oridy's Rise. Once again, players must find three ghostly turtles, the first of which is directly north of the statue near the rocky formations. After that, players can find another one halfway up a tree behind the tower, and if they go southwest from that spot along a rocky ramp, they will find the last one on the ground to their left. After that, head back to the tower and climb it to find a chest with a Memory Stone inside.

Memory Stone 5

Elden Ring Glintstone Key Map Location Academy

Another Memory Stone can be obtained by defeating the Elden Ring's first boss at the Raya Lucaria Academy, the Red Wolf of Radagon. The Academy is located in the middle of the region, and it will require players to acquire the Glintstone Key to get inside. This key can be found behind a Glintstone Dragon directly west of the Academy. The key will be in a body behind the sleeping enemy and can be obtained without having to fight him.

Memory Stone 6

Elden Ring Seluvi Rise Location Map

The last Memory Stone in Liurnia of the Lakes can be found atop Seluvi's Rise to the northwest in the Three Sisters region. The tower will be magically protected, preventing entrance to anyone. To unlock it, players must head north to Ranni's Rise and speak with Ranni, a mysterious Elden Ring NPC, at the top. Accepting her proposal will have the players meet Seluvis at the bottom of the tower, inviting them back to his own. Players will need to use the Site of Grace before being able to leave Ranni's Rise, after which they are free to climb Selivus' Tower and claim the Memory Stone at the top.

Memory Stone 7

Elden Ring Lenne Rise Location Map

On the other side of the map, players can get an easy Memory Stone by finding Lenne's Rise in eastern Caelid. Players can get to this location more easily by first traveling to the Third Church of Marika in eastern Limgrave. Next to it flows a river, and if players follow it westward, they will find a waygate that will lead them to the Bestial Sanctum, just to the north of Lenne's Rise. After arriving at the tower, players can look to its south to find a Spiritspring that they can use with Torrent, their mount in Elden Ring, to reach the balcony. Climbing it to the top will reveal a chest containing a Memory Stone.

Elden Ring Hermit Village Map Location

The last Memory Stone is also the hardest to get if players have not yet been to Mt. Gelmir. To acquire it, they will need to kill Demi-Human Queen Maggie, which resides at the Hermit Village. Getting there the first time will require players to go around the volcano in order to climb their way into the village. Then, starting at the ravine to the west of Wyndham Ruins, players will need to go around it until they reach the Seethwater Terminus Site of Grace. From there, go south past the lava lake to reach the Craftman's Shack, then head up the hill to the east to find the Hermit Village. This Elden Ring boss fight can be quite challenging as it will require players to deal with multiple adds, so prepare accordingly.
