Eiza Gonzalez has sparked speculation that she will be playing Catwoman in the DCEU, with the character expected to be in David Ayer's Gotham City Sirens, thanks to a social media post of the actress in a black catsuit. Gonzalez is currently appearing in Edgar Wright's Baby Driver, as the beautiful Darling - one of the many people after gifted getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort). Baby Driver is getting phenomenal reviews so far, and it may well be the vehicle that launches the relatively unknown Gonzalez to stardom, and to bigger franchise roles in the future.
One such possibility could even be a part in the DCEU, some fans are speculating. As the existing superhero cinematic universes continue to grow at a rapid rate, more and more actors are joining the world of live-action comics, so it's entirely possible. And now, a social media post from the actress has led some to wonder if she could be taking on a very specific character in the near future.
Gonzalez posted two stories to her Instagram today showing herself in a black catsuit and heels. One was captioned "The uniform lately," while the other didn't include any caption at all. Although the stories will disappear from the social media site soon, as they are designed to be temporary, one fan took screenshots in order to start a discussion about the possibility that she could be teasing a role as Catwoman in the DCEU.
The other Reddit users point out that Gonzalez has previously posted a photo of boxes of comics (captioned "a geek"), that she has visited the Warner Bros. lot, and that she and head of DC Films Geoff Johns follow each other on social media.
The outfit in question does look a lot like Catwoman's usual style, and the character is also going to be appearing in the DCEU in the near future, as part of the in-development Gotham City Sirens movie (if not before). The film will see Margot Robbie reprise her role as Harley Quinn, but there has not yet been an official announcement about who will be taking on the roles of Catwoman and Poison Ivy.
Gonzalez may well be a good choice for the Catwoman role - she's got the right look, some experience with action films (and playing the seductress), and it looks like Baby Driver is going to raise her profile significantly. Although she is not a very well-known actress, the DCEU did extremely well with casting Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman when she was similarly positioned, and Margot Robbie also only had a few major projects under her belt when she got the part of Harley Quinn. It seems that the DCEU is doing well with casting lesser-known women for big parts, so this might not be a deterrent in Gonzalez's case. However, it's important to remember that this is only fan speculation based on a very general Instagram post, and nothing has been confirmed by DC. Gonzalez could simply have been showing off her latest favorite outfit, which just happens to look a little like Catwoman's, or the outfit could be from another project entirely.
