Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald actor Eddie Redmayne wants Hagrid to be included in a future Fantastic Beasts sequel. The most recent addition to the Harry Potter universe centers around Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who is tasked with bringing down one of the most powerful dark wizards; Gellert Grindelwald. Even though Newt's story takes place decades before Harry Potter's, Warner Bros. has already announced some connections that will tie Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter together.

The most obvious connection between the films is the main villain Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp. Grindelwald previously appeared in flashbacks in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, but was played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Michael Byrne. A younger version of Dumbledore will also be played by Jude Law, and it was recently reported that Fiona Glascott would be playing a young Minerva McGonagall. Likewise, the film will also be expanding on other Harry Potter characters by introducing Nicolas Flamel and explaining the history of Nagini. With the additions of these popular characters, Redmayne is hoping that Hagrid might one day be among them.

When talking with Cinema Blend, Redmayne revealed that the one character he really wants to see in a Fantastic Beasts sequel is the half-human, half-giant named Rubeus Hagrid. Redmayne further explained, "Hagrid. And I'm secretly hoping that at some wonderful point, maybe if I say it enough times to J.K. Rowling, like a little mini Hagrid might arrive". His co-star Katherine Waterson, who plays Tina Goldstein, also agreed with Redmayne saying, "In the timeline, he could be a kid. I think it could work!".

Rubeus Hagrid in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

In all eight Harry Potter films, Hagrid was portrayed by British actor Robbie Coltrane. Much like Dumbledore and McGonagall, Hagrid was an influential figure in Harry's life. After all, Hagrid was the one that flew Harry to the Dursleys' when Harry was a baby, and then rescued the poor boy from his family when he turned 11. Hagrid was the Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts when Harry initially came to the school, but also taught Care for Magical Creatures for a short time.

Even though many fans would be thrilled to see a young Hagrid in a Fantastic Beasts sequel, it can't happen right now, since Hagrid hasn't even been born during the events of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of GrindelwaldThat being said, since Warner Bros. is making three more Fantastic Beasts sequels, the writers could easily include a younger version of Hagrid in some capacity. Rowling has also revealed that the Fantastic Beasts movies will span 19 years, meaning everyone's favorite gamekeeper could potentially cross paths with Newt.
