Ed Sheeran has already conquered the music industry but he's consistently made an impact on film and TV as well. His cameos have become pretty common, and among his filmography, the Englishman has racked up some genuinely impressive titles, from Game Of Thrones to Bridget Jones.

While most of these cameos are as himself, or at the very least an exaggerated iteration, Ed Sheeran has taken on a few characters as well. Only one of these figures has made more than one appearance, but that isn't to say that the singer doesn't have a future potentially reprising some of these roles down the line!

Honorable Mention - The Bastard Executioner (2015)

Francis Magee and Ed Sheeran in The Bastard Executioner Season 1 Epiosde 6

While the majority of Ed Sheeran's appearances on screen are one-off cameos, The Bastard Executionerone of his earliest roles, was a reoccurring one. Taking on the role of Sir Cormac, Sheeran's character is a loyal servant of the court and pretty dastardly.

It's not a starring position by any means, but Sheeran appears in five episodes of the 14th-century drama. The opportunity showcased his ability to genuinely become a character, rather than just portraying himself, and allowed the singer to exhibit his range in some dramatic and horrifying scenes.

Game Of Thrones (2017)

A Lannister soldier looking at Arya in Game of Thrones

Game Of Thrones didn't sport many cameos considering it would take viewers out of the narrative. One surprising addition to the seventh season was Ed Sheeran, who masqueraded as a Lannister soldier. He only had a brief scene alongside Arya Stark but it was a notable one.

The sequence aimed to humanize the enemy slightly, with Sheeran adding a rendition of 'Hands Of Gold,' a melody fans of the books will be familiar with. He hasn't been seen since, but it's unlikely that the character will be showing up in the sequel Jon Snow series.

Yesterday (2019)

Yesterday Ed Sheeran

No one plays Ed Sheeran better than himself and the version put to screen in Yesterday might have been closer than most despite its mocking tone. He was portrayed as one of the best songwriters in the world, which to be fair is a claim that's hard to argue against. The lead character Jack Malik had an ace up his sleeve though when Sheeran challenged him to a competition.

Not one to back down, Jack used The Beatles' famous track, 'The Long and Winding Road,' which is considered by many to be one of the greatest songs of all time. Sheeran took the defeat in his stride and it continues to be one of his most memorable cameos to date, genuinely adding something to Jack's story.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Stormtroopers

Stormtroopers categorically have the worst job in the galaxy far, far away but that hasn't stopped tonnes of celebrities from getting under the helmet. From a prince to a Bond actor, a whole host of famous faces have hidden beneath the white armor. That includes Ed Sheeran it turns out.

It's hard to pinpoint which Stormtrooper he is considering he doesn't have any lines, but Ed Sheeran is one of the soldiers in Star Wars: The Rise Of SkywalkerAs a massive sci-fi and fantasy fan, it was likely a dream come true for Sheeran, who has now been immortalized among a hive of scum and villainy.

Modern Love (2019)

Ed SHeeran Modern Love

Modern Lovethe anthology series about just that, boasted one of the most star-studded line-ups ever witnessed in a single series. Ed Sheeran was among that group, playing a homeless character named Mick, who only appears in a single episode of the show.

Mick's been taken in for the night but doesn't understand the social etiquette to leave a room to give a couple some privacy. It's an awkward and hilarious moment, that shows off some of Sheeran's comedic timing, even if the appearance itself was a little surprising and out-of-place.

Red Notice (2021)

Ed Sheeran Red Notice Cameo

It's one of the most-watched movies in the world but surprisingly one of the highlights of the picture is Ed Sheeran's brilliant cameo, which also boasted an epic quote. Brought in to sing at a wedding, Sheeran was quickly busted by Interpol along with the rest of the guests.

Annoyed that he didn't know who he was, Sheeran's mocking appearance in Red Notice demonstrates just how good his sense of humor is even calling reference to Game Of Thrones. Fans also got a little bit of a performance of the song 'Perfect,' which continues to be a wildly successful single for the singer. It was yet another surprise appearance but one that elevated the comedy of the moment.

The Simpsons (2018)

Simpsons Ed Sheeran

The list of cameos in The Simpsons is almost endless. From incredible professional athletes to brilliant actors and of course talented musicians, Ed Sheeran joined that long line-up in Season 29, Episode 10 of the show. Unlike some stars though, he wasn't voicing a version of himself.

Portraying a young jazz musician named Brendan, Sheeran's character was looking for love with Lisa. The only problem was that he had some competition on his hands. While Brendan might have won the day thanks to Sheeran's vocals, the kid was conveniently moved to another school, never to appear again.

Bridget Jones's Baby (2016)

Bridget jones Ed Sheeran

The Bridget Jones series is known for poking fun at the British media and the third installment to the franchise didn't disappoint, when Bridget and her colleague/friend Miranda attend a concert. There they're allowed into the VIP section where they get excited about the surrounding celebrities.

Recognizing Sheeran as a Starbucks employee, the duo asks him to take a photo of them. Confused by the whole situation Sheeran leaves to play in front of thousands, and that's the point at which Bridget and Miranda sort of realizing their mistake. It's a funny sequence and once again an indicator that often the best use of the singer is in a comedy-driven situation.
