Ah, rumors. So many of them these days that it becomes a task in and of itself to discern between fact and fiction. Case in point:
Yesterday a Canadian gossip website called Lainey Gossip reported that there were reshoots scheduled to take place for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The scenes were apparently some key fight sequences and some stuff with Bella and Edward in a meadow (that you can see in the Eclipse trailer). Supposedly the reshoots would take place over three days instead of the originally planned seven, due to Robert Pattinson’s work schedule. The cast and crew were supposedly going to work for 18 hours a day, three days straight.
What’s more interesting than that the fact reshoots were supposedly being planned was who was going to be overseeing them. Lainey stated that the relationship between Eclipse director David Slade and Summit Entertainment wasn’t that great, and rumor had it that previous Twilight Saga directors Catherin Hardwicke (Twilight) and Chris Weitz (New Moon) were on a list of possible directors who could oversee the reshoots.
There were a couple of things that gave credence to these rumors: one, Lainey Gossip has been right in regards to a couple of previous Twilight news items. Two, they rightly said that Hardwicke was currently in Vancouver (where Eclipse was filmed) shooting another movie – so it was entirely possible that if Summit was going to reach out to anybody other than Slade it would be Hardwicke, who has experience with the series.
However, quickly after these Eclipse reshoot rumors appeared, Summit Entertainment jumped in to deny it. According to the guys over at Hit Fix, Slade would be the one to fly back over to Vancouver (from London where he’s overseeing the film’s score) for what are actually pickups and NOT reshoots. Pickups are basically little pieces of footage shot and inserted into scenes for any number of reasons, ranging from bad lighting to missing pieces of dialogue.
Any Twilight fans fretting over these Eclipse pickups can relax – Summit has had them planned for months now. And for the record, even though the pickups may be getting done in three days, the scenes being touched up aren’t that major – and they’re certainly not the major action sequences.
So there you have it, Twilight fans – the third film is getting along fine with no major reshoots of any kind. It’s just a few touch-ups to get it ready for its release this summer (wow, it was only last November New Moon was released and we’re already into the mania for Eclipse!).
Thoughts on all these Eclipse reshoot rumors? Are you glad everything is fine with the movie or are you a Twilight hater who wanted things to crash and burn? :P
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse hits theaters on June 30th, 2010.
