The upcoming 2021 Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, has been garnering more and more rumors and speculation as it approaches, and many fans are eager to see what announcements and updates their favorite studios will bring forward with their presentations. While much is up in the air regarding whether or not certain projects will make any sort of appearance at E3, there are a few games that seem almost guaranteed to show up - and just as likely to generate a lot of excitement when they do.
In addition to big companies like Nintendo and Microsoft, various smaller studios will also be present at E3, and anticipated game announcements range from massive main-line titles to smaller indie games. Along with new announcements, however, comes updates to previously-announced titles and projects that are currently in various stages of development. Release dates, new DLC, and gameplay footage are commonly brought forward during the E3 expo.
Some potential news, while highly anticipated, isn't guaranteed to make the cut for this year's E3. Many fans are hoping for an announcement regarding Elden Ring, but thus far there's been little indication of whether anything can be expected from this year's presentation - though if Elden Ring does appear, it will certainly get a lot of attention. Biggest Possible E3 Announcement - Starfield
While Microsoft's recent acquisition of Bethesda has lead many fans to believe that Starfield will be PC and Xbox exclusive, little else has recently been revealed about the upcoming title. The game is Bethesda's latest RPG project, and is slated to release before The Elder Scrolls 6 finishes development - though the specifics of that time window are unknown. Bethesda fans are speculating, however, that Starfield could be slated for a 2022 release. If that's the case, it seems likely that players can expect a release date announcement during E3 2021, as well as a potential first look at gameplay (or, at the very least, a new trailer).
Biggest Possible E3 Announcement - Breath of the Wild 2
Nintendo's presentation at E3 2019 announced the development of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, a sequel to the open-world game released for the Nintendo Switch in 2017. Since then, not much has been said about it. However, 2021 marks the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series, which has lead many to speculate that this year's E3 could bring with it some big updates about the state of Breath of the Wild 2 as well as a tentative release date. Coupled with rumors that Nintendo could be rolling out a new console, the timing seems almost perfect for BOTW 2 news - and, if there is an announcement, it will almost certainly make waves.
Biggest Possible E3 Announcement - Halo Infinite
Aside from a tentative window of autumn 2021, no release date has yet to be given for the upcoming Halo Infinite. Because of this, it seems increasingly likely that the date will be revealed at this year's E3. The game was originally slated to launch with the Xbox Series X, but was delayed due to various factors. Many fans believe that development is close to finishing, and more are hoping to see gameplay or trailers for Halo Infinite during the presentation. Given the quickly-approaching tentative release date, it does seem a likely candidate to make an appearance during E3 2021, and fans of the Halo series are excited to see if it lives up to their expectations.
