The CW's reboot of Dynasty is a total guilty pleasure soap opera that introduces the fictional story of the wealthy Carrington family to a whole new audience. Based on the original 1980s series of the same name, every character, from the good-hearted to the truly evil, has their counterpart with creative liberties taken in stories that are both inspired and original.
And while Blake Carrington, played by Grant Show, is the billionaire family patriarch and head of the successful business Carrington Atlantic, it's his daughter and heiress Fallon who often steals the show.
Bucking stereotypes that the daughter of a rich mogul is just spoiled and entitled, Fallon is still sort of both except there is one thing she isn't: lazy. She's fiercely smart and totally driven, determined to earn the respect of her peers while taking on as much power as she can. But who's the real star of the show?
Fallon: More Screen Time
While one would have to analyze every episode of the first three seasons to date to really figure out if it's true, it seems like Fallon has much more screen time than any other character. Sure, a lot of the stories are centered around Blake, or go back to him in some fashion. But he's often seen in passing while Fallon is the center of it all - even when she's playing a double role as herself and her mother, Alexis, after plastic surgery.
While an episode could easily take place without seeing Blake at all and nothing would be missing, an episode without Fallon and her witty insults or sarcastic comments and constant scheming would be totally boring.
Blake: He Is Still In Charge Of The Family Business
Despite the fact that Fallon is next in line to take over the family business, and she is laser-focused on forging her own path and building a reputation in business that helps her get out of her father's shadow, he is still very much in charge.
Fallon can't really do anything without the approval of her father, and when she tries, he has the connections, resources, money, and ruthless nature to stop it if he wanted to.
Fallon: The Future Of The Family
Fallon represents the future of the family, which makes her the star of the show. Blake could be written off and while the show would be lacking his presence and the dynamics of the strained relationship between father and daughter, things would still forge ahead.
Whereas without Fallon, the future of the family, the show wouldn't be able to continue. Fallon is responsible for carrying on the Carrington name.
Blake: Many Storylines Center Around Him
From the death of Cristal number one to the introduction of Cristal number two, the murder of her ex-husband and a Carrington employee, Jeff Colby's constant attempts to take over, or takedown, Carrington Atlantic, and the return of Alexis Carrington, so many storylines center around Blake.
While Fallon brings the drama, the drama wouldn't be there to be brought in the first place, so to speak, without Blake and his laundry list (and growing) of enemies.
Fallon: Many Storylines Center Around Her
While a lot of storylines center around Blake, just as many, if not more, center around Fallon. From her relationships with Culhane and Liam to her desire to carve a path for herself as an energy executive outside of her father's business. Then there are her friendships, relationships, scheming, and catfights. Fallon is the heart of the show.
Not only are most storylines centered around her, but most of the interesting ones are focused on Fallon, or people directly connected to her.
Blake: Taking Him Down Is Key
At the heart of the show is the fact that everyone wants to try and take down Blake, from his daughter Fallon to his business rival Jeff Colby, his ex-wife Alexis, and even, at one point, his long-lost son Adam.
Every story leads back to Blake and his constant battles with everyone and everything, doing whatever is necessary to maintain his power.
Fallon: Her Rise To Power Is Key
Fallon doesn't just want to be the billionaire's daughter. She wants to be successful in her own right and much of the story follows Fallon as she tries to do this. From partnering up with rival Jeff Colby to starting her own publishing company and even buying a night club for her best friend then looking to sign musical talent, she is willing to try anything.
Viewers want to follow Fallon along her path to see if she finally makes it big on her own and if so, doing what.
Blake: He Is Ruthless
Viewers love drama and Blake certainly brings it. In fact, it seems to follow him everywhere he goes. He is completely ruthless, stopping at nothing to get what he wants, from encouraging his friend and majordomo Anders to perjure himself on the stand to actually murdering a man.
It's so entertaining to see just how far Blake will go next and if there is any line he won't cross.
Fallon: She Is Her Father's Daughter
It requires the dynamic between both characters but seeing how much Fallon is her father's daughter, and how deeply she doesn't want to believe it's true, totally makes her the star of the show.
Watching Fallon grow into a ruthless person like her father while trying to balance that with her morals and ethics, which Blake seems to lack, makes her the most compelling star of the show.
Blake: He Is The Core Villain
Every show needs a good villain and while the argument could be made for both Blake and Fallon being the villain, it's clear that Blake is the most heartless, ruthless of the two. And he's constantly pushing back against everyone.
Without him standing in Fallon's way at every turn, her path would be far too easy. Blake is the star that makes everything else turn and who presents every challenge Fallon ends up facing along her journey to becoming a successful businesswoman.
