Elaine Hendrix thinks Dynasty season 4 is the show's best yet, talking up the clothes and cars viewers can expect to see. The CW soap is a reboot of the original Dynasty series that aired on ABC from 1981-1989. The updated version utilizes many of the same characters as the first show, tweaking them slightly for modern times. The Dynasty reboot has been a success for The CW since it premiered in 2017. Season 4 began airing on May 7, and the network renewed the show for season 5 back in February 2021. This ensures Dynasty will likely be on the air through 2022.

Hendrix, known for her roles in movies like The Parent Trap and Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, joined Dynasty in season 3 as Alexis Carrington Colby. Alexis was played by Joan Collins in the original series, and the character is considered one of television's most iconic villains. In the reboot, Hendrix took over the role from Nicollette Sheridan, who played Alexis in seasons 1 and 2. Elizabeth Gillies, who plays the character's daughter, Fallon, also briefly portrayed Alexis in between Sheridan and Hendrix, using prosthetics in her performance.

Speaking with TVLine ahead of Dynasty's season 4 premiere, Hendrix called the new season the show's best yet. She also discussed the impact COVID-19 has had on the upcoming episodes, promising that despite everything, "it's still Dynasty."

I think, completely unbiasedly, just looking at the material and the vibe, this truly is the best season. The cast has settled, we’re all very tight-knit, and the writers have had to get really creative because of the pandemic. There’s a lot more personal interaction between the characters. There isn’t as much of the glitz and glam to distract from that. But at the same time, it’s still Dynasty — the clothes are better, the cars are better, we’re all flying high.

It's exciting to hear Hendrix speak so highly of Dynasty season 4, and it's good the ongoing pandemic hasn't negatively affected the show and its storylines. Though some series have incorporated the coronavirus into their storytelling, The CW shows have largely ignored it onscreen, intent on giving viewers some much-needed escapism. However, the pandemic has still played a role behind-the-scenes, as is evident by Hendrix's comments. In Dynasty's case, it sounds like the writers truly made the best of a bad situation, shifting the focus to characters while still providing what viewers expect from the primetime soap.

It's not hard to imagine Dynasty season 4 being the show's best, even though only one episode has aired so far. Oftentimes, seasons 3 and 4 are when shows really settle into their rhythm, and it helps that the cast seems to get along so well. With Dynasty season 5 already on the way as well, it's good to hear those behind the show are still enjoying their work on it and seem excited about the future. It will be interesting to see what sort of drama awaits Alexis and the other characters this season and next on Dynasty.
