Dying Light is the game that just won't stop being supported. Even on the cusp of revealing more information about Dying Light 2, the developers over at Techland have released another version of the six year old zombie survival-parkour game: Dying Light: Platinum Edition. Priced at a steep $100 (though 75% on the Microsoft Store for the next week or so at the time of this writing), the Platinum Edition appears to be the definitive version of the game, including all DLC ever created for Dying Light.

When it first landed, Dying Light impressed audiences with its free-running traversal. The first-person, part hack-and-slash, part shooter takes place in a mostly urban Middle Eastern city called Harran, which has been quarantined because of a zombie infestation. Protagonist Kyle Crane is an undercover agent infiltrating the locked down city, running and jumping across rooftops to get around.

Dying Light also features a novel day/night cycle, which affects enemy behavior. Zombies are typical, slow moving amblers during the day, but become increasingly aggressive as the sun sets. Night is also prime time for the Volatiles to come out - a very fast, incredibly dangerous zombie variant that can take quite a few bullets.

Even through the rocky development of Dying Light 2, Techland has been pumping new content into the original game. While a lot of the content was minor additions, such as new weapons and cosmetic items, Dying Light did receive a handful of expansions and extra game modes. The largest expansion, The Following, was actually standalone, introducing a new map and drivable vehicles. Throughout its life cycle, Dying Light has also received plenty of free content updates. What follows is a list of all paid content included in the Platinum Edition:

Games, Expansions, & Extra Game Modes

  • Dying Light
  • Dying Light: The Following
  • Be the Zombie game mode
  • Cuisine & Cargo (two bonus Quarantine Zones)
  • Hellraid game mode

Dying Light has turned into something much larger than it was originally, especially when The Following released. Development for the sequel has been taking a while, but Techland promises Dying Light 2 will be bigger than the original, at least in square footage. For those interested (and with potentially $100 to spare), Dying Light: Platinum Edition looks to be a massive package, including all anyone would need to parkour across Harran.
