Update (11/3/2021 2:15 PM CDT): Following the reveal of Dying Light 2's Lawan character being played by Rosario Dawson, best known as Ahsoka in The Mandalorian season 2, a November Dying 2 Know MORE developer diary video has given new insight into Dawson's role and Lawan as a character.

The original story continues below.

The developer of Dying Light 2: Stay Human has announced that The Mandalorian actress Rosario Dawson will play a role in the game, appearing as the character Lawan. The upcoming release takes place in a zombie-filled post-apocalyptic world in which players must fight against both humans and the undead. Dying Light 2 is launching in February 2022 after being delayed out of 2021.

Dying Light 2 takes place 20 years after the events of the first title, which launched in 2015, and introduces new protagonist Aiden Caldwell. Aiden, played by Jonah Scott, possesses incredible skills that give him the power to change The City's fate, with exceptional agility and combat abilities making him a force to contend with whether fighting zombies or human enemies. Aiden's agility will come in handy when traversing the game's open-world, allowing for wall-running, vertical exploration, and more. This is especially important for the sequel, which doubles the number of parkour moves seen in Dying Light.

Techland has confirmed that Rosario Dawson will be appearing in Dying Light 2, playing the newly introduced character, Lawan. A teaser video featuring Dawson introducing the character was shared to Twitter by the official Dying Light account. Dawson describes Lawan as "a warrior of sorts, a very tough woman who is fighting her past and looking to seek revenge on the people who wronged her." Dawson also reveals that players' decisions will impact the character's role in the story. Over on the PlayStation Blog, Techland writer Marta Szczechowska has also teased some of what Lawan has to offer, describing her as a "strong woman you’ll be able to befriend (or estrange, should you annoy her)." According to the developer, Lawan is a complex character with a deep backstory, adding that she's both "brutally honest" and "really important."

Rosario Dawson is perhaps best known for her role as Ahsoka Tano in the Disney Plus series, The Mandalorianthough fans will also recognize the actress from Daredevil, as well as Jane the Virgin. Dawson is no stranger to zombie-filled universes having featured in Zombieland: Double Tap, though the world of Dying Light 2 and its relentless undead are shaping up to be a lot more brutal than that of the 2019 horror-comedy. The actress is also set to star in the upcoming limited Star Wars series, Star Wars: Ahsoka.

The latest Dying Light 2 casting announcement puts some serious star power into the upcoming release, and it's possible there's even more surprises in store for fans. Techland has been sharing developer updates through a video series entitled "Dying 2 Know," offering a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the game, its story, and its world. The fourth episode is available now, with even more Dying Light 2 updates expected in the coming weeks.
