After a recent tweet from Techland, Dying light 2 fans found themselves questioning the length of the upcoming title’s story and content. The upcoming open-world zombie parkour game was announced back at E3 2018, having a release date set for spring 2020. However, due to many issues and setbacks during the development process, Dying Light 2 had been delayed indefinitely, now with a release date of February 4, 2022.

During its time of development, the Dying Light 2 Twitter page has been dropping information regarding the game, videos, and screenshots of the title building up fan's expectations. Techland also had a show titled “Dying 2 Know”, which allowed people to learn more about the game from the development team itself. Since the release of the first Dying Light back in 2015, more post-launch content has come out, along with an eventual Switch release late last year, that's continued to fuel hopes for Dying Light 2's story, revealed in multiple trailers.

On January 8, the Dying Light Twitter page sent out an infographic stating that it would take players at least 500 hours in order to complete the game. With no further context given, fans believed that the statement meant it would take that long to complete all of the main missions in the game, leading to more than a little confusion. Many found themselves concerned and troubled with the statistic since it seemed too farfetched to be true.

Dying Light 2 Isn't As Long As It Might Seem

Dying Light2 Hour Breakdown Info Graphic

Two days after the initial tweet, the team at Techland sent out another follow-up tweet clarifying the information to put people’s minds at ease. A new infographic was provided breaking down the 500 hours that was stated beforehand. It will take players 20 hours to complete the main story, 80 hours to finish both the main story and side quests, and 500 hours to 100% everything. This easily makes Dying Light 2 an ambitious game, but not in the way that some might initially have thought.

Fans who are intimidated by the 500-hour figure don’t have to worry about needing to do everything if they don't feel like it, nor about completing those 500 hours completely solo, because the entirety of Dying Light 2 can be completed in four-player co-op. Its also been recently announced that all players in a session can vote on major decisions that will affect how the story plays out as well. During one of the “Dying 2 Knowepisodes, it was even stated that all players in the session will keep all of their items and character progression that they've earned in co-op.

After the backlash from the tweet, the heat has died down and everything seems again to be business as usual on the team's Twitter page. As one of 2022's most anticipated games, Dying Light 2 raising a considerable number of concerns and questions is understandable. Over the next few weeks, fans can expect to see more gameplay footage and trailers relating to the story. Players have to wait less than a month to jump back into the zombie parkour world.
