Dying Light 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to the survival horror game Dying Light is set to have quite the day one patch, with over 1,000 bugs needing addressing. It's not uncommon for new releases to have day one patches to address outstanding issues, the scale of the day one patch for Dying Light 2 is certainly unusual.

In Dying Light 2, players will take the role of Aidan Caldwall, a brand new protagonist from the original game. Set 15 years after Dying Light, the player will venture to the last remaining city on Earth in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. The zombies in Dying Light respond differently depending on the time of day, moving more slowly during the daytime and gaining more speed and agility in the evening. Using a combination of ultraviolet light to slow the zombies down along with traps and parkour skills, the player will have to evade and traverse the open world of Dying Light 2, avoiding the infected as they complete various missions. With thousands of parkour animations along with tools such as a hang glider and grappling hook to cross the map, the game is a technical feat. Unfortunately, with all these tools come the potential for issues.

According to a new report by IGNDying Light is set to receive a rather large day one patch, which will address over 1,000 bugs. Developer Techland confirmed the number of bugfixes to IGN, saying that it would continue to iterate and improve the PC version of Dying Light 2. This would indicate that there may still be several bugs that are outstanding on the PC and console version of Dying Light 2, but that Techland is aware of these issues and has more fixes planned.

While the PC version of Dying Light 2 is set to release on February 4, Techland had previously announced that the Nintendo Switch version would be delayed several months. It's unknown whether technical issues plagued the Nintendo Switch version as well, but Dying Light 2 is certainly off to somewhat of a rocky start.

For fans of the original game, the hope will be that the many bugfixes for Dying Light 2 will put the game into a solid, playable state on release. The game, which boasts nearly 500 hours of gameplay for players to sink their teeth into, has been one of the most talked-about games set to be released in early 2022. For those who want to start their 500-hour journey of Dying Light 2 on day one, they might still need to allocate a few hours for loading the massive day one patch.
