On this Dancing With the Stars season, Gabby Windey will be a contestant, and fans want to know why she was chosen, rather than her The Bachelorette castmate, Rachel Recchia. Some fans are surprised, in light of Gabby's total lack of ballroom dancing experience. She is not the first Bachelor Nation alum to compete on DWTS. She follows Trista Sutter, Melissa Rycroft, Hannah Brown, and Kaitlyn Bristowe (the last two women both won their seasons), in addition to some former The Bachelor leads.
Viewers who aren't up on Bachelor Nation may not know that Gabby and Rachel were the co-leads for the entire season of The Bachelorette season 19. This allowed viewers to see both of them on their journeys to find love. The Bachelorette finale will be on Tuesday, September 20, and it promises to be dramatic. However, Gabby will be starting a new journey on Dancing With the Stars, even though both leads expressed interest in competing on DWTS in the future. Despite this, it seems like Rachel really tried to get her best friend and former co-star a gig on the dancing competition.
According to ET Online, Robert Mills, who is the senior vice president of ABC entertainment, stated that the 26-year-old pilot pushed for her co-star to be the lead. He stated, "Gabby is actually on -- and this is the God's honest truth -- she's on because of Rachel... When we were at CMA Fest in Nashville in June, we were having dinner and Rachel said, 'You have to put Gabby on Dancing With the Stars. This is her dream. She would be so good. Please, please put her on." Before that, he admitted that Gabby wasn't even on DWTS' producers' radar for the show, despite her being a former cheerleader for the Denver Broncos.
Gabby kicked off her time on Dancing With the Stars by performing a jive to the song "As It Was" by Harry Styles. She received great comments from the four judges. Her scores were all sevens, giving her a total score of 28 out of 40. The viewers also loved her on the show, which resulted in her being safe, and returning to the ballroom for next Monday's themed "Elvis Night."
Gabby just took her turn on the dance floor, and now, viewers are poised to find out exactly how her The Bachelorette adventure ended. It seems obvious that Gabby is happy, and no matter what happens on her Bachelorette journey, they will be rooting for her during her time on DWTS. Two previous Bachelorette leads have won the Mirror Ball trophy in the past, and Gabby may be the third. Fans should tune in each week and vote, if they want to see her go all the way. For now, they can watch Gabby return to the ballroom next week.
Dancing With The Stars streams live Monday Nights at 8 p.m. EST on Disney+.
