Dancing With The Stars professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy knows that he has something special with Gabby Windey as they dance on season 31, but he now reveals their biggest competition. Val and Gabby impressed in their first two weeks on DWTS season 31. In week 1, they placed third with their jive to "As It Was" by Harry Styles, which earned them a score of 28 out of 40. They tied with Shangela and Gleb Savchenko and Selma Blair and Sasha Farber. During DWTS Elvis Night in week 2, Gabby and Val tied for first place with their Viennese waltz to the classic Elvis Presley love song "Can't Help Falling in Love." They earned 32 points out of 40, along with Wayne Brady and Witney Carson, and Charli D'Amelio and Mark Ballas. Val and Gabby are definitely front-runners in the competition, and Val's wife Jenna Johnson has pointed out that they are the perfect partners for each other.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Val identified his and Gabby's biggest competition on DWTS season 31. He said that he feels very lucky to have Gabby as his partner. He shared that "she is wonderful to work with, she's loved by a lot of people, rightfully so. And she can dance. So I think I have every single tool I can ask for." Val knows that some of his fellow competitors are phenomenal dancers, but he acknowledged that the fan vote affects who wins the Mirrorball Trophy as well. He admitted that he does not know who their biggest competition actually is because he does not see the votes, but he did name a few contestants based solely on their dancing ability.
Val Praises His Fellow DWTS Season 31 Cast Members
Val said that Wayne and Witney "look great," and "they make a great partnership. We've seen a partnership like that win a show before." He also named other couples, including Daniel Durant and Britt Stewart. Daniel, who is deaf, is inspiring people with disabilities every week on the show. Val said, "That's an epic performer, epic dancer, and an incredible story." He also chose Charli and Mark, saying that Charli is an "incredible performer" with a "humongous fan base" that is "bigger than like 90 percent of countries around the world." Additionally, Val mentioned Jessie James Decker and Alan Bersten as an example of a type of couple that has won DWTS. Val said the show is "really competitive this year," and "we'll have a lot of shockers as the season goes on."
Although Val is right that DWTS eliminations can be unpredictable because of the fan votes, season 31 seems to be pretty balanced so far. Charli might have an immense fan base, but she tops the leaderboard each week, so she deserves to be there. So far, both eliminated contestants, Sex and the City star Jason Lewis and The Real Housewives of New Jersey's Teresa Giudice have placed near the bottom, despite their presumably huge fan bases. The only contestant whose fans seemed to have stepped up to keep him on DWTS is Jersey Shore's Vinny Guadagnino, who was in last place on the first episode with a dismal score of 17 out of 40 points. However, he redeemed himself and jumped to ninth place on Elvis Night with a score of 27.
DWTS season 31 already has had some memorable performances, and the upcoming Bond Night in honor of the 60th anniversary of the James Bond movies, is sure to impress as well. Three Bachelor Nation stars – Melissa Rycroft, Hannah Brown, and Kaitlyn Bristowe – have won DWTS in the past, and Gabby is on her way to doing the same. Val is the perfect DWTS pro because he is smart enough to be aware of their competition, but confident and talented enough to know that he and Gabby could win it all.
