Sharna Burgess opened up about how difficult it is to compete alongside a significant other on Dancing With The Stars. Sharna's dance partner for DWTS season 30 is none other than her boyfriend, Brian Austin Green. The pro dancer and the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum officially announced their relationship in early 2021 after rumors emerged that the two were a couple. Sharna and Brian have been going strong since then, both in life and on the dance floor.

Sharna has spoken before about the challenges that come along with dating her dance partner. She's never competed alongside someone she was romantically involved with, so it's definitely been an adjustment for her. It's all very new for the pro, and she believes the hardest part is going about how to approach everything each day. Since the couple has good communication with each other, they haven't had any bad moments in rehearsal. Sharna has taken home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy once in her 14-season tenure on the show. She and Bobby Bones were victorious in DWTS season 27, and fans are hoping she'll go for round two this season. Despite these challenges, Brian said Sharna's teaching skills are top-notch, so seeing these two in the finale might not be so far off.

Since the reality dancing show is focused on who comes out on top, Sharna's relationship hasn't been an asset during the competition. "Honestly, it’s almost a disadvantage," she told Us Weekly. "We have this sensitivity when minding each other’s feelings. We want to make sure our relationship is good outside of it. That’s always going to be a priority for us." Both Sharna and Brian are more focused on how their relationship fares outside of the show than the competition itself. Sharna also opened up about the pressure to constantly exhibit chemistry between Brian and herself on the dance floor, or fans will claim they don't have any. "Dance is so different...We are doing our very best with it," she explained.

Sharna, who just celebrated Brian's son's birthday, is proud of the progress her boyfriend has made on the dance floor so far and even thinks the judges have been a little too hard on him. Admitting she might be "a little bit biased," she said she takes the "judges’ comments even more personally this season" since they're talking about her boyfriend. "Normally, any other season, I’m like, ‘Got it, cool. We’ll work on that. No worries.’…[Now] I’m just like, ‘I disagree. He did so good,'" Sharna said. While it may be more difficult to dance with a significant other in some capacities, it might also evoke a greater passion to prove the judges wrong.

Even if there are some downsides to Sharna and Brian competing together for the DWTS Mirrorball Trophy, it's still fun for fans to see them dancing each week. Although the judges are, according to Sharna, being a little harsh on Brian, they are up against some tough competition this season. That being said, there's no reason Brian can't keep improving each week and come out victorious with Sharna at the end of DWTS season 30.

Dancing With The Stars airs Mondays at 8pm on ABC.
