Dancing With The Stars season 31 contestant Shangela opened up about how supportive Gleb Savchenko is as her dance partner. Shangela is the first ever Drag Queen to appear on the American version of DWTS. Shangela made history twice for the reality competition series, the first from being the first Drag Queen, but then also being part of the first male-male partnership on DWTS.

The DWTS contestant discussed with Parade that she couldn’t have asked for a better partner to be paired up with. Continuing on, she claimed, “I prayed, I journaled, and I thought,” in hopes she would get a partner who matched her same energy levels. Shangela recalled how she knew this is the first male-male partnership for DWTS, but she had “no reservations” since Gleb was her partner. She described her and Gleb as a “true partnership” and explained that is how the two dancers make “magic happen.” She proceeded to praise Gleb, expanding on how great of a person he is and how much fun he is to work with.

Shangela Receives Her Highest Score During DWTS Prom Night

Shangela From Dancing With The Stars

The two dancers have seemingly gotten better as the weeks continue for the dance competition. Shangela received her highest score so far in the competition for Prom Night after receiving three 9’s and one 8, in total scoring a 35 out of 40. The two are in good standing to continue and possibly win the DWTS Mirrorball Trophy. In addition to staying out of the bottom, Shangela made it clear that she's not backing down either. She claimed, “I most definitely think that I have a shot at winning.”

Shangela has made waves with her performances, especially within the Drag Queen and LGBTQ+ communities. It is nice to see her embracing who she is as a person without any setback and making DWTS history while doing so. Not to mention, having Gleb by her side seems all the more worth it to her. The two dancers work together like a well-oiled machine, and the scores Shangela and Gleb have received from the DWTS judges so far prove that.

It seems as though the DWTS competition is still tight as the contestants move closer to that Mirrorball Trophy. However, Shangela is not letting that stop her from enjoying every minute of her journey. Even though she would like to win Dancing With The Stars, the experience seems to mean more than just winning. This is a way for communities to feel included and empowered, and make movements on a larger scale with audiences watching. Gleb supporting Shangela as her dance partner is the icing on top.
