Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave a huge surprise to his longtime stunt double this week. when he gifted the man a brand new truck. The A-list action star gave the truck away as a token of gratitude to his colleague, Tanoai Reed, who has worked with Johnson on the sets of his blockbuster films for many years.

Johnson is a Hollywood star that regularly stresses the importance of gratitude, family, and humility. As a result, he is one of the film industry’s most grounded stars. He’s also a well-known philanthropist, having created his own charity named The Dwayne Johnson ROCK Foundation dedicated to helping hospitalized children. And this week, The Rock added yet another heart-warming action to the list.

In a moving and emotional Instagram post, Johnson showed how he went about gifting Reed the truck. The beginning of the video explains that Reed thought he and Johnson were simply a filming a general behind-the-scenes video about their years working together. But, as the video jokingly adds, Reed had, “no idea he’s about to receive a visit from Dwanta Clause.” As The Rock discusses his close relationship to Reed and how “he’s been an incredible partner and brother” to the action star, a driver parks Reed’s gift close by. When Johnson reveals the shiny new black pickup truck, Reed tears up from shock and the two share a big hug.

Johnson dedicated his post’s caption to detailing his years-long relationship with Reed. The two have been working together ever since 2002's Mummy spinoff The Scorpion King. Since then, Reed and The Rock have done numerous action films alongside each other, including multiple films in the Fast & Furious franchise, San Andreas, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and most recently, Rampage. Reed suffered a stunt injury on that film that he’s still recovering from, and according to Johnson, it’s only one of many that Reed has suffered over the years of his work doing film stunts. This was one of the contributing factors that led The Rock to believe it was time to do a nice, big gesture to stress his appreciation for all of Reed’s hard work and sacrifices.

Even though Dwayne Johnson is one of Hollywood’s biggest names in terms of action films, this summer has been a mixed bag of results for the star. With his two films Rampage and Skyscraper, Johnson proved that while he can sell a wild video game adaptation about a giant, rampaging gorilla, he also showed that even The Rock isn't immune to flops. His tribute to Die Hard, Skyscraper, only opened at the number 3 spot in domestic theaters, resulting in one of Johnson's most disappointing box office openings to date. Yet even with this weaker-than-usual film, there’s no doubt that Johnson’s reputation as one of Hollywood’s finest won't wane any time soon. The actor has a wide variety of projects coming up, from a Jumanji sequel, to the Disney film Jungle Cruise, to what could even be a possible future project with Tom Cruise. With all of Johnson’s upcoming projects and his recent heartfelt gesture to Reed, it certainly seems as though the relationship shared between these two will only grow stronger in the years to come.
