Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson celebrated Easter Sunday by dressing up as Pikachu (again) for his young daughter. There's no question that it was an exciting weekend for Johnson, as his latest Fast and Furious installment The Fate of the Furious had the biggest worldwide box office opening of all time with a global haul of $532.5 million. Only one thing could top that milestone, though, as Johnson spent his day off Easter Sunday with his longtime partner Lauren Hashian, their daughter, Jasmine, and family's dog, Hobbs.
Normally the Easter Bunny visits kids on the Easter holiday - but in the Johnson household a furry, yellow 6-foot 5-inch Pokémon creature named Pikachu is much more popular.
Johnson, who famously dressed up as Pikachu for last Halloween to entertain Jasmine, decided with Hashian that it was time to break out the costume again because Pikachu is his daughter's favorite character. In an Instagram post (see below), Johnson says a lot has changed since the iconic Pokémon visited Jasmine – namely that the toddler has graduated from crawling to running – so he posted a video to prove it. Johnson says:
"Pikachu didn't account for the fact that now Jazzy RUNS and for 2 hrs straight she wants to play her new favorite game, 'I run away and you chase me Pikachu. And you're not allowed to take a break until I go night night.' At the end of the vid you can hear her yell, 'Peekyu' because she can't say, Pikachu."
The first time Jasmine's favorite character, Pikachu came to visit her months ago she was only crawling. For Easter Sunday @laurenhashianofficial and I thought, Pikachu should make a special visit once again. Well, Pikachu didn't account for the fact that now Jazzy RUNS and for 2hrs straight she wants to play her new favorite game, "I run away and you chase me Pikachu. And you're not allowed to take a break until I go night night". At the end of the vid you can hear her yell, "Peekyu" because she can't say, Pikachu. I'm tired, today's my only day off, it's 118 degrees in this costume and Hobbs keep trying to p*ss on my leg. And I luv every minute of it. Bring it on. It's what daddy's do. Happy Easter to you guys and enjoy your families. #Rockachu #DaddyPuttinInWork #TheGameThatNeverEnds #PikachuLooksBloated
Before he ended the post wishing everybody a Happy Easter, Johnson tells fans a bit more about what clearly is his favorite role to play:
"I'm tired, today's my only day off, it's 118 degrees in this costume and Hobbs keep trying to p*ss on my leg. And I luv every minute of it. Bring it on. It's what daddy's do."
Johnson's Easter post is just another reminder why he is arguably the biggest box office draw in the world right now. Whether it's in interviews or personal social media messages like the one he posted Sunday, he's extremely identifiable to his fans. Making things relatable is clearly a priority for Johnson, even if it's he's doing something as extraordinary in The Fate of the Furious as trying to out-maneuver a Russian nuclear submarine.
Whether the star of the upcoming Baywatch movie is chronicling her personal or professional life, Johnson is giving his all to everything – or is he? At this rate, he'll have to secure the role of Pikachu in a future Pokémon Go movie to stay in his daughter's good graces.
