Dwayne Johnson compares Black Adam's powers to that of Superman, which is why he's so excited to play the DC character. Back when Warner Bros. and DC Films were starting to assemble a shared universe, Johnson was one of the first stars they brought aboard. He was cast as Black Adam in 2014, but has yet to come close to making his way to the screen. The lack of his presence in the universe comes as he's become one of the biggest movie stars and celebrities on the planet.

Still, Johnson has never lost interest in playing Black Adam someday. He was originally going to appear in Shazam!, but the decision was made to hold him off and give the usual DC villain a standalone film insteadBlack Adam has been in development for over two years at this point, and Johnson recently got good news with Jaume Collett-Sera being hired to direct the movie. With that recent positive development, Johnson is again sharing why he's excited to play Black Adam.

He was asked about Black Adam by MTV at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, and used it as an opportunity to hype up his power set for casual audiences. Since many may not be familiar with what Black Adam can do, Johnson compared his abilities to one of DC's cornerstone characters, Superman. He said, "Black Adam has the same powers as Superman. Think about that! That's why it's so cool and exciting."

Black Adam

Black Adam does have comparable power to Superman, but his actual power set is much more like Shazam's. Both of them were granted their abilities through the Council of Wizards and received the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury. Neither of them can shoot lasers out of their eyes like Superman, but Black Adam is equally as strong, capable of flight, and nearly invincible.

The powers that Black Adam possesses may have yet to be shown on the big screen, but Shazam! did set up how he's used his powers in the past. Without specifically naming him, the solo film teases that Black Adam is the one who killed six members of the Council of Wizards hundreds of years ago, and caused massive destruction with the Seven Deadly Sins. If Black Adam is a prequel film, then we may then get to see his incredible powers used in this way. In the present day though, it remains to be seen if Johnson will get to clash with Superman as he's hoped to do. If he does one day come face-to-face with the Man of Steel, it's possible that Henry Cavill may not be the one who's in the suit anymore. Until that happens though, we'll first need to wait and see just how powerful the big screen version of Black Adam is.
