Dwayne Johnson is teasing that his debut as Black Adam might be closer than some fans were previously-expecting. There is no denying that having Johnson attached to your film these days is a surefire way to improve its box office takings. This is certainly good news for DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns and the DC Extended Universe, when Johnson finally does take on his role as supervillain/antihero Black Adam.

Things seem to finally be moving ahead with the Johnson-headlined Black Adam solo film and its undisclosed release date. While we have long wondered if Johnson would suit up first than his villainous role in 2019's Shazam!, the wrestler-cum-actor has now revealed that Adam's arrival will be sooner rather than later.

While promoting his upcoming film Baywatch, Johnson exclusively spoke to Fandango about when we should expect him to step up to the plate as Black Adam. He teased that he is already preparing for the part and that DC fans are in for a major surprise:

“It’s definitely going to happen, sure. We’ve had great conversations with Geoff Johns and everyone over at DC. It’s an exciting time right now for everyone at DC because they are in a process now where they are building out [their DC universe] really nicely. We have a really cool surprise for Black Adam that I can’t reveal, in terms of where we will see Black Adam being introduced.”

DC R-rated movies - Aquaman, Lobo, Black Adam

So, putting our detective hats, when can we expect the ancient Egyptian? Taking to Instagram late last year, Johnson shared a snap of him with Henry Cavill, aka Superman, suggesting they will be sharing screen time in the near future. We know that Cavill will next be appearing in a (not so) secret role in Zack Snyder's Justice League, which could be the perfect time for the duo to have a smackdown. Superman and the rest of the League will be taking on Steppenwolf and an army of Parademons, but that doesn't mean that we can't squeeze in a last-minute appearance of Black Adam. Speaking about Cavill and Johson butting heads, Johnson also assured us:

“One fine day… that’s coming. That’s in the cards."

We know that Johnson wants Armie Hammer to play Shazam and that Black Adam will play a major role the Shazam! solo film, so it seems that he is pointing to something much closer. Whether or not Adam will appear in Justice League remains to be seen, but if not, even the likes of Aquaman could hold this golden Easter Egg.
