Hannibal talents Mads Mikkelsen and Bryan Fuller reunite for a new horror movie called Dust Bunny. Fuller is the creator of Hannibal, which ran on NBC from 2013-2015. Mikkelsen played the titular character Dr. Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal. Other Hannibal cast members included Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne, Caroline Dhavernas, and Gillian Anderson.

Apart from Hannibal, Fuller is a talent known for a wide array of high-profile TV series, including beloved shows like Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, and Wonderfalls. Fuller is also the creator of the Neil Gaiman adaptation of American Gods. He has also worked as a producer and executive producer on two phases of Star Trek series, including Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Discovery. Mikkelsen is known for acting in many film and television roles, including The Hunt, Another Round, Doctor Strange, Casino Royale, and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

Mikkelsen and Fuller team up again with Fuller's upcoming horror film Dust Bunny. According to Deadline, Dust Bunny is a horror film that focuses on "an eight-year-old girl who enlists the help of her intriguing neighbor to kill the monster under her bed that she believes ate her family." Dust Bunny is directed and written by Fuller and produced by Entertainment One and Thunder Road. Dust Bunny will begin production in 2023.

How Will Fuller's Roots Influence Dust Bunny?

Hugh Dancy as Will Graham and Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal

Not only will Dust Bunny see Mikkelsen and Fuller reunite for the first time since Hannibal, but the film also marks an interesting turn for Fuller's career. Dust Bunny will be Fuller's feature film debut. Despite working in the industry for many years, Fuller has mostly stuck to television. Not only that, but most of Fuller's recent career has been spent on television shows that are adaptations of iconic material. Star Trek: Voyager was not the first iteration of Star Trek, nor was Hannibal the first on-screen portrayal of the iconic Dr. Hannibal Lecter. With Dust Bunny, Fuller is taking on not only a film but an original screenplay rather than an adapted one, departing from the work more recently in his wheelhouse and harkening back to his days creating original show ideas.

Fuller's newness to film directing is in no way a precursor of disarray for Dust Bunny, however. Fuller's work in the TV industry has been extremely successful. Hannibal specifically shows Fuller's aptitude for work closer to the horror genre. Combining that with his science-fiction television experience, Dust Bunny has the potential to play to Fuller's strengths and combine his interests in unique ways. Perhaps Dust Bunny will air towards the supernatural end of the spectrum, given Fuller's sci-fi roots. Until filming begins and more information is available on Dust Bunny, Fuller and Mikkelsen fans will have to keep guessing.
