Photos taken on the Dungeons & Dragons movie set reveal the first look at Hugh Grant's costume. Originally a fantasy tabletop role-playing game, the popular IP has been adapted into various films and television shows to very little success. The most notorious flop of them all, the 2000 feature film adaptation starring Jeremy Irons and Marlon Wayans, has been derided for its cheap aesthetics, poor direction, and bad performances.

After a lengthy legal battle over rights, the upcoming D&D adaptation landed at Paramount and Entertainment One, who look to correct course for the franchise. In 2019, Game Night’s Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley were hired to direct the film and write a new draft of the script that David Leslie Johnson had previously worked on. The film made a significant splash when it cast Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez as its two leads, followed by Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page, It’s Sophia Lillis, and Jurassic World’s Justice Smith in supporting roles. However, one of Dungeons & Dragons’ most intriguing casting decisions was Hugh Grant as the main villain, Forge Fletcher.

With the Dungeons & Dragons movie production beginning recently in Northern Ireland and other locations, Pine and Rodriguez have already been seen on set in costume. Still, now the first look at Grant’s garb is here. The Daily Mail spotted the English actor on set, wearing a long tan coat and blue scarf. The photo can be seen below, posted by the Forgotten Realms Wiki, which was reporting live from the set in the town of Carrickfergus.

Based on every set photo that has surfaced thus far, the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie appears to be respecting its source material. This has been reinforced by the film's star, Regé-Jean Page, who says the movie will be a "huge sigh of relief for Dungeons & Dragons fans everywhere." Considering the reception of the D&D movie from 2000, the bar is low for this adaptation by Goldstein and Daley. However, anticipation is still incredibly high, especially with Page also calling the script a “breath of fresh air.”

Very little is known about Grant’s villainous Forge Fletcher or any character in the film for that matter. So far, Lillis and Jason Wong play the only other named characters, Doric and Dralas, respectively. Considering the game’s adventuring parties are traditionally made up of four to five players, the film likely consists of Pine, Rodriguez, Page, Lillis, and Smith. They will meet their worthy adversary in Grant, who has not been commonly cast as villains throughout his career, but recently took a menacing turn in The Undoing. Now that the first look at Forge Fletcher is here expect many more Dungeons & Dragons reveals later on down the line.
