Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves star Regé-Jean Page compares himself to Stranger Things season 4's fan-favorite character Eddie Munson. Based on the fantasy tabletop role-playing game of the same name, the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie is written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, and will serve as a reboot for the film franchise. The cast includes Chris Pine as a Bard, Michelle Rodriguez as a Barbarian, Justice Smith as a Sorcerer, Page as a Paladin, Sophia Lillis as a Druid, and Hugh Grant as a Rogue.

Originally created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson in 1974, the classic tabletop game's extensive lore now spans a wide variety of monsters, factions, races, character classes, magical artifacts, spells, dungeons, and other locations. The property was first adapted into a feature film in the year 2000, which was a flop by all accounts. Two direct-to-video releases followed after that in 2005 and 2012. Though the film franchise then fizzled out, Dungeons & Dragons saw a resurgence in popularity due to its prominent role in Netflix's Stranger Things.

Now, during the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, which Screen Rant attended, Page compared himself to Stranger Things' own Eddie Munson. The Bridgerton breakout star revealed his fondness for the tabletop game is rooted in his childhood. Read what Page said below:

I've always found role-playing games super inspiring so that's why I came in for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. I basically grew up as Eddie Munson.

Introduced in the recently released Stranger Things season 4 and portrayed by Joseph Quinn, Eddie Munson is the lovable leader of the Dungeons & Dragons group known as the Hellfire Club, which includes Dustin and several of his friends. The new season of Stranger Things also explores the wave of panic that occurred during the 1980s linking the role-playing game to Satanism, as Eddie is wrongfully accused of murdering Chrissy Cunningham. Whether it is due to his Upside Down guitar shredding or his heroic attempts to save Hawkins, Eddie has become a veritable fan-favorite as a result of Stranger Things season 4. At the same time, it's rather amusing to hear Page insist he was just like Eddie as a child, since the actor's breakout role was as the suave Duke of Hastings on Bridgerton. Simon hardly seems like someone interested in fantasy realms.

D&D fans will surely be glad to hear Page express his childhood love of the game and compare himself to Eddie Munson. It's a sure sign that Paramount's reboot is being handled by actors with a real reverence for the source material. Other than Page, cast members such as Pine have done their fair share of homework by joining real D&D campaigns in preparation for the film. Fans can rest easy while they wait for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves to release in theaters next year.
